Kittie some sources on line are saying this is an old article from last year.
I've unplugged everything anyway, even if its just a practice run.

    Kittie I watch this
    http://www.spaceweather.com/
and simular sites that use the NASA data.
Currently there are a few blasts from the sun, but they are space bound. Unfortunately the area they are coming from will face us in the next couple of days, but no big blasts on the horizon possibly M class which are mid range-can cause blackouts but it depends. The sun is carefully watched by a number of agencies so hopefully if big blasts are on the way we will get at least a few hours warning. The sun can sometimes just blast stuff away from us then calm down so nothing is guaranteed lol.

Mind you with the high winds and storms we are getting/expected to get its not a bad idea to unplug items just in case of power surges.

Was that article about the flares last year that blacked out a large chunk of Canada for over 9 hrs (longer in some places)?

Watching the river here-its about 5 mins walk away, but over fields and somewhat downhill so fingers crossed no flooding. Not doing the garden any good tho and the chucks look seriously miffed.

Batten down the hatches guys, hope ev1 gets through the next few days without too much trouble. 2tonsils I can only add my sympathies to the others in this thread, sounds a really trying time. My OH went to Greece when younger and loved the place and the people, its so sad.

Even now laptop typing is jumping all over

THIS ARTICLE IS NOT CURRENT!!! Hopefully no one is going into a panic over it being posted here. :(

Maybe it's just the wind that's affecting your typing....Hope the weather doesn't get too bad down there. :)

Kittie, what area of the Uk are you?, if you dont mind me asking. There must be a problem if the power company is telling you there may be power cuts.

Mar glad the meet-up went well, wish we had a more central Ikea here but having our preppers meet near Abhakan crafty place was just as good and the flapjacks were amazing - thank you Smileyt by the way for my treat.

Cake glad you are organised there. Keep warm and dry hunny, :)

I learned that the hard way on here years ago. :o Only trust a link (especially from the DM) if it is backed up on reputable news sites. at least you gave your OH a giggle. :D

I clicked on the link but noticed there was no date. The DM is very bad for recycling old stories and it pays to look at the date - often it's several days out of date. If there's no date then it's often a link from a more current news story and it could be months old.

I'm a bit sheepish about admitting I know so much about the DM site but in my defence it used to have very good finance articles until Anthony Hilton decamped to the Indie. Alex Brummer is still quite good but doesn't seem to post all that often. But I'm trying to get my DD to get a bit more clued up about finance and business and I still think This is Money (the DM finance bit) is really good for introducing people to what can be a complex area.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
