Preparedness for when

Thanks Mary
I'll read that later I've sat down for 5 minutes
before I attack the loo's
Why do people always post really interesting stuff when I should be cleaning lol ?
I know some people assume I probably go around dressed as Rambo with a zombie killing spike attached to my hip and wearing camo facepaint but I too only prep for likely scenarios but living so close to London we have a few extras here that others may not.
If you read any prepping site its full of people who are stressed and worried when they first start as they see lists upon lists of useful things which are must have items but once you actually start to slow down and sit and think thats when you can tailor things to suit YOU and your needs..a bit like the Old Style boards really..slowcookers,breadmakers etc you know what I mean.
In real life I lurch from one crisis to another and the forums are one of my few destressing mechanisms so I for one am glad to be able to finally be able to talk on here about the things that make me happy and keep me sane,<- *well that ones debatable* but over the years I've made many good friends on here and value everyones opinion wether they think I'm a nutjob or not.
As Rosie said in an earlier post 'life's too short' and I heartily agree but I'm glad I get to spend some of my time with you all on here

off to the loo's!!0 -
I found the same crock as mine for lacto fermenting cabbage. Its a harsch gartopf 5 litre and the one here is an absolutely bargain price. Mine was well more than that

Good post maryb, food for thought and I guess that is what I already do subconsciously. I only prep for lesser scenarios eg anything nuclear then I would not want to survive.
Re doing without electricity reminds me of washday when I was little. All washing soaked all night in cold water in the bath and then scrubbed and rubbed with a big bar of household soap. Rinsed and then put through the mangle. So washing can be done0 -
Agree with D3 - I'm not a worrier, life is too short. I look at things, think them over, decide what to do, do it, then move on. If it's something I can't do then I ignore it
- I don't listen to catcalls and jeers, I just blank them.
Had our wee meetup this morning, just so sorry it was a short one for me, since I'm not feeling very great. We will have another one before xmas if weather is ok.
I had to drag the RV into the cafe, told him to look for wimmen wearing safetypins. Without my glasses I can see a midge at the other end of a football pitch..and with them I can see anything that's between me and the end of my nose. So anything in the middle becomes a problem :rotfl::rotfl:
So once we found some safetypin wearers he cleared off to Halfords. And I got wool envy and was allowed to pet a poncho and a cardi0 -
Well, we are currently trapped at home by flooding (both lanes out are underwater) so I am pleased we have plenty of food for us and the animals, logs for the woodburner and gas in the tank for cooking. Have checked our nearest neighbour, she's fine.
I have been building up my store cupboard slowly for the last couple of months mainly against price increases, but we are 5 miles from the nearest shop, and 12 from a supermarket, so ...
It also occurred to me last night watching two excellent BBC programes: the one on the Vikings, and then the Andrew Marr history one, that it is only comparatively recently that we have all relied so much on third parties to supply our food: for thousands of years we all grew, foraged or caught everything we needed to eat. If the harvest failed, or your preserved food rotted, you starved, simple as that. I think the feeling that some of us get at this time of year is rather like a folk memory, we feel compelled to squirrel away a bit of food, even if we live round the corner from a supermarket....
Anyway, I am off to charge up my torch - if the winds come as forecast. we may well have power cuts this evening.
Stay safe and warm, all.0 -
Glad you were prepped for emergencies Cake. Sounds like the last village we lived in , up on a donkey track. If it rained heavy the roads flooded and we got cut off...once for nine days..it was like being surrounded by a lake it was so deep. Then we had to negotiate the gravel and small rocks that the rain had brought down. Hope your electric stays on. Hope you are all safe and warm, have just seen the UK weather on our news and it looks grim!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0

Thanks Cake,
Stay safe. I think what you say makes a lot of sense."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

You can pet my cardi anytime Mardatha...it appreciated the attention. I'll try to wear something handspun next time though. I always feel like I'm cheating if I buy yarn!Val.0

Aw, it sounds like the Scots contingent had a good meet
. I enjoyed ours yesterday, it is good for morale and mental health generally to meet with like-minded people from time to time.
