It was said on the radio Americans are going back to basics and becoming more thrifty and trying to make food go further and spend less(so where possible growing or catching their own food)

So where possible people are returning to fishing and hunting.

Hi everyone, I have just seen today's forecast and it looks like a big storm is brewing for the whole country. Looks like a good day to stay at home if you can. For those going out in it, take care of yourselves.:grouphug:

  • ...guess who's taking the "new" vehicle on an epic journey today? Ha!

For someone who mentioned wartime books on rabbits, I have got "Keeping poultry and rabbits on scraps" and while there are some good pointers, it is of an age when battery farming was the new, modern, ideal solution. Mmm. So yes it does show that the animals can cope in bad conditions, so I shan't feel guilty if they have less space to run around in than I do ;)

I think the Manchester meet picked a better day, hope it's not too wild for us meeting in Edinburgh today. Not bad here at all just light rain and slight breeze so far.
Re Scotland, I couldn't move down south not ever. I've only ever been to Newcastle & Blackpool (and York once for 3 hours lol) but I felt so very far from home and out of place that I knew I'd never like it. And my daughter went to a horse event in Birmingham and came back in shock. She said its like another planet mum! I read of Scots living all over the world and always feel very sorry for them - when in reality they're probly very happy - but if that was me, the first Hogmanay I'd turn into a wee soggy puddle of misery and have to come home !

Just running in quickly before I start the housework etc to say hope you all have a wonderful time and stay safe from the weather!

We have a bit of a respite from it now but it was a bit wild yesterday,I got the dog ready to go out and she point blank refused and turned tail and hid behind the kids :rotfl:wuss!
If she crosses her legs much longer she'll be in knots love her..

But I know you're not afraid of a 'bit of weather' up there you hardy lot have fun.

Hope everyone has a great day whatever you're up to back later to read all your news, the duster is calling.. XX
  • Mardatha - can't help feeling that Birmingham, bless its little business-like socks, is indeed a little other-worldly wherever you come from! Seems very strange to us down here too.

    Enjoy your meet!

Every time I've been anywhere down near the home counties I've been astonished by the sheer density of the population, both in the streets and towns and especially on the roads. And London is the worst of all, it seems like total gridlock most of the time. How is there enough oxygen to go round? I don't exactly live in the sticks out here, I'm within six miles of the centre of Edinburgh in a small town just outside the green belt but it's reasonably quiet and I can walk and drive around easily 90% of the time. There's just too many people down south! Even when I lived in Sunderland for three years there were too many people and that's not even south-south!

And yes, I'll be at the meet. I'm giving my OH my big car though, he's got to go to Stirling today and his wee Polo is a bit bouncy in strong winds.

You mean the whole country isn't in gridlock? :rotfl:
Having lived in London all my life I've watched it change from my parents being the only ones in our road to have a car back in the 60's, to now, where I can drive around for 10 mins trying to find a parking space within 2 mins walk of my home. It's often quicker and cheaper to go by train but the trains only run north/south which isn't always helpful.
And people, yes, way too many people. Where I live in London used to be Kent back in the 60's now due to urban sprawl it's just another London borough.
The air smells, it's stuffy and horrible, really notice the difference when I visit mum at the coast.
Just waiting for the youngest to settle and make sure she doesn't need to move back home then we're outta of here.
But being a softy southerner couldn't do Scotland, not made of tough enough stuff............unless being chased by Zombies of course ;):D
