Could somebody give me ideas on solar lights please ? we haven't got any and I def want some. Also I've heard about solar panels that go on shed roofs - is that right? Watching this big storm getting closer and hoping you're all ok down south.

We could be without electricity and phones if what happened in the early 80's happened again.

An ice storm came from Canada and wiped out cables all over the place because of the weight of the ice.
Some places had no electricity for weeks and no phones either.
We had a friend who worked for the only (the big one) telephone company at the time and he was working almost round the clock to help restore services, He and all the others at the sharp end sacrificed a lot of family time to get it done.

I'm damp, cold and its pertiddling down..dogs got the hump cos she wants to go out but is too weird to actually like rain most normal dogs...*sigh* very gusty too so hoping the tree that blocks out my light will finally fall over..no such luck!

Byatt I met a lady on the field with her dog when the riots were going on and she was travelling that day right into it and hadn't seen the news, she still thanks me when I see her lol

I don't blame people for not reading papers or watching the news though as some days its just so depressing!

Aw don't apologise Mrs lds. I wouldn't have a clue if you hadn't mentioned it. I like to know things, even if it does frighten me. I knee jerked in the early hours that's all. I could't find the 'news' and wanted to know what was going on that's all.

Please post as you have done.. and heads up is better than heads in the sand imo. :)

I think the whole idea is to be aware of what's going on - not to worry about it, jsut to know about it. xxx please nobody worry, just do what you can. TY grandma , I'll go and lookat Maplins :)

Another good post Ali...it's suggested that if you use stream/water butt water most would boil it if you could or add water purification tablets...

We do need to know what is going on and often I'd love to ignore it but if I do that I can't be prepared. Most of the news is depressing or what they decide to report is(I am more concerned what we are not told)

I remember the radio presenter Pete Murray saying he avoided watching/listening to the news...

I've deleted my two posts from earlier. I stand by what I said but I don't want to get into pointless arguments, we're all entitled to our own opinions

  • In a long term shtf scenario, I dunno maybe the benefits system goes tits up and we're all skinter than a skint thing... Well some of us are growing our own veg. Who is producing meat? There are growing numbers of people keeping chickens, for sure. I'm swotting up on rabbits; anyone else thinking this way?
