  • HI all
It was so lovely to meet other OS preppers in Ikea, it certainly does the soul some good not to feel like a loony all the time:rotfl:.
Sadly I had to dash as got a phonecall to say my mum had had a heart attack, but luckily she is doing absolutely grand (woke up telling my dad she thought they had done something when she was asleep, they had put a stent in:o).
My doggy bag of cake from the ikea Cafe served me well, as stuff in hsopital left a lot to be desired!.
Hope everyone is safe and cosy
    hugs WLL x

  • well, I did a long post and lost it last night, along with a post for another thread on here...from now on I am going to copy it before I try to post just in case it all goes wrong! Blame the Greek servers...

We had the chicken noodle soup (home made) yesterday, then I froze the rest of it, along with the bits of chicken on the bone..for later use. I used the roast pork from Sunday and just added a green salad and a bowl of walnut icecream for afters. I froze the rest of the pork as there is enough for two big servings left over.

I found two crusts of my gluten free home made bread in the freezer so had a much fancied cheese on toast supper....but my OH blames that for my three nightmares this morning. Strangely, I woke up after each one then went back to sleep to have a different bad dream...it annoys me that he could actually be right about the cheese lol....although I will never admit it to him.

Went to the gym this morning on the back of my OH's scooter to save petrol. It is glorious weather and expected to last till the end of October with an odd storm now and again. This is very unusual weather for us at this time of year but it will be a financial life saver for us. It means we won't need the fire wood till November and can use the scooters instead of the car.....which means we can save the money to pay for the last installment of our extra taxes due in early November...great news! Using the scooters saves us 45 euros a week in petrol and we will keep using them as long as its not raining heavily.

Of course, now I put the winter quilt back on the bed and the winter curtains up we are going to have a heatwave of 35 in the shade from tomorrow. We went for swim at the unheated outdoor pool today, by far the latest in the year we have been able to swim in a pool. The sea stays warm enough till later in the year but the thought of going swimming in the storms we usually get puts me off.

Tomorrow is the day of the national strike so all the shops and offices will be closed. Unfortunately the ferry workers and air traffic controllers are also taking part in it so it will impact tourists travel tomorrow and the day after when they try to catch up on flights and ferry sailings.

My friend wanted to fly back to the UK for the winter but got quoted 425 euros for a one way flight from corfu to the UK....which is scandalous in October! No wonder tourism is down..

I will be helping out at the gym on Thursday as I didn't want to be there during the strike if they open. I fear there may be trouble.. I help out for four hours a week in return for my year's gym membership and that of my OH. It works well for all of us.

I went power walking yesterday on the mountain in my flat boxing boots and now my shins are really sore...so its back to wearing my toning trainers. Okay, they may not tone anything in particular but they are fantastic for comfort when power walking!

Off to cook my turkey meatballs with home made tomato sauce and gluten free pasta. Might just have another bowl of the walnut icecream for afters as we only had a mozarella and salad lunch.

Hope you are all safe and well, the weather looked horrendous on Sky news earlier!

Thinking of all who are having particularly hard times(we wouldn't be here otherwise)well we would now we are all mainly friends and are respectful of views even if ours can be different to others...

So now we have posters suffering due to the bad weather, fridge/freezers breaking down and sadly people who are ill or worse.

Thank heavens we are there for each other and giving support, help and ideas to try and make things better.

Isn't cold water the best for burns anyway? Thats what we always do.

yes that is correct, I needed more treatment than that and that came via certain items in my first aid kit. My fire kit is especially dedicated to burns, cold water is sometimes not available in enough quantity and may not be cold enough

It is - but you can get burn dressings/ gels that cool the burn more conveniently than having to put the are under running water for 20 mins. When I scalded my leg at work I was very grateful be able to put on a dressing rather than stand in the ladies with my leg in the sink! Though yes cool water running water (domestic tap should be cold enough - it shouldn't be ice cold) is the best first response - though many people underestimate how long you need to leave the burn under/ in the water - at least 10 min ideally 30.
