Not Buying it 2015!0 -
Siegemode I've been away for a few days, had a lurgy, and I'm just starting to catch up, so I wanted to post straight away - so sorry to hear about the loss of your remaining beautiful cat, I'm glad you've gone for individual cremation, and you'll be getting her back. I did the same for mine, and its a great comfort, even tho, like GQ said, I still go teary-eyed.
All the best.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I am currently researching all I need for my SHTF risks. Watching Youtube does give a lot of ideas about what risks to consider. Though Volcanoes are not my list, though volcanic dust probably should be. Then to work out what is really essential and what is superfluous, and how to deal with each in turn. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

I have feedback :j I've no idea at all why I was researching volcanoes, they *definitely* aren't on my shtf listbut as you say, the dust is an issue. I can't find the link again, I've looked before, but I got onto the website of an international vulcanologist organisation, and there were discussions about what to do in the event of a more serious dust event. One of the things I definitely remember is about using cling wrap to wrap electronic devices you wanted to preserve. I bought quite a few rolls - its a really cheap prep, after all, and even though you couldn't use your stuff while it was wrapped up, at least its available to you once the emergency's over. Might be an idea to buy a very cheap mobile to use, and let it be destroyed eventually, as well. Hmmm.

I have plenty of cling film already but maybe I should prepare a list for each situation. We will probably get three or four days warning of volcanic dust so should be able to collect it together as long as you have it in your home already. Builders dust masks might be part of the solution.
Though we will get some warning of most things even if it is only a few hours. So as long as you have it in your home you should be able to cope.
Something like a flood would require moving things upstairs. Bungalow owners you are !!!!!!ed! :rotfl:It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

You wouldn't think it but, one of the hardest things to buy, as a vegetarian, is sweets.
Many packs don't carry the "Suitable for Vegetarians" logo (and some of those that do, only display it in small writing on the back of the packet), meaning you can spend ages, reading the ingredients lists.
Simple boiled sweets (eg. Foxes Glacier mints) tend to be OK, but you would be surprised how many sweets contain animal products.
I was in £world earlier, and found a smaller, lighter, pruning saw.
True, the blade is only about half the length of the larger saw, but the closed length is about 3" shorter, and it is less than 1/3rd the weight.0 -

I will need to get some of those as well. Though I might get extra for immediate family members. You might need a couple of spares as well. Masking tape would also be handy to block up any draughty windows as well, dust could get indoors and become problematic. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Bedsit Bob which masks have you gone for please ? I have looked into them before, but it can get quite confusing. There seem to be 3 grades and then there's respirators with removable filters. In addition some disposable and some use once or reusable. folding ones ideal for stowing away. So much choice
Does anyone have any recommendations please ? I'm thinking of something that would be of use during a virus outbreak or volcanic dust situation or what ever might be thrown at us:(
Karmacat and everyone else, thanks all for posting over the weekend. I'm feeling less emotional today and all the support has been such a comfort. It has also confirmed what a lovely community we have here and that some have de lurked to send hugs and kind words says it all:A.
Although our princess has gone to chase butterflies in the clouds with her brother we still have the comfort of our younger male moggy and I have had lots of cuddles and heart to hearts with him:)
Going to try and pull myself together and start getting organised and focussed.0
