  • Hi everyone,
I tend to lurk and prep in the background, food sorted for bugging in for a while, few bits sorted for bugging out but a long way to go there. However I was wondering what you guys have in your EDC? Most of the prep sites include knives and things I would worry about having on my person if I happened to encounter a policeman. I have a few things that I carry round but this tend to be orientated and towards kid related "disasters" cut knee, bite/sting, high temp etc. But thinking I need to set up something more substantial in case trouble hits while out and about

I think there's a lot to be said for a pocket umbrella. I carry one in my hand if I'm going anywhere dodgy. It's every bit as solid as a policeman's truncheon, but they cannot object to me carrying it.

    I carry this.

If I'm in my car, in addition to all the usual car stuff (fire extinguisher, jump leads, snow shovel, etc.) I also have at my disposal, 2x 1st Aid kits, and a pouch containing:-

    2x Space blankets

    2x Yorkie Bars

    2x Blackfriers Flapjacks

    1x torch/inspection lamp

    1x 500ml bottle of water

    1x note pad

    2x ballpoint pens

    1x Craft Knife

Also, carried separately, 1x pack of moisturising wipes.

If conditions look like being really bad, and/or I'm travelling somewhere off the beaten track, I take along my German Army, sleeved sleeping bag.

It's excellent because, you can unzip and fold back the bottom, allowing you to walk, and even drive, while wearing it.

ETA: Nearly forgot. I always carry one of these in my coat pocket.

Except mine's red, so it's easier to locate, if dropped.
  • That's an unusual sleeping bag BB, I've never seen one like that before :)
guineapiglet, I think you could carry pretty much any kind of knife you wanted in a BOB as long as it was obviously part of a survival type kit - ie if it's buried in a rucksack with lots of camping stuff it's no biggie carrying a fixed blade knife say, if you carry it on your person or tucked into the glovebox that would be not so good...

There's that capitalisation thing again. :-)

The gentleman concerned seems to have a clique of followers, for whom he can never be wrong; I'd like to see his predictions tested in a throughly scientific and statistical way, for all I know he might well be on to something.

However he and his follows getting all defensive and using abusive language, indicates a 'them and us' attitude that's not conducive to progress.
The first day of his predicted storms has passed here, at least, with barely a whimper. Two days to go but I have my doubts on the accuracy of this particular prediction. He may still be on to something, but I do agree with armyknife that a little more humility and civility towards the standard meteorologists might be warranted but it's his website I guess, he can do what he likes with it and we aren't obliged to read it <shrug>

They are available here in the UK, and not too expensive either.

Err, Bob, on Amazon it says these items are 'used'. Were there any stains on yours?
  • There were no stains, and I didn't get mine from Amazon.

I got it from Tib Street, in Manchester, and that was many moons ago.

This evening I have been reading 'The Slog' talking about the situation in Ukraine.

A commenter makes a very interesting parallel with Scottish independence:

I think that such an offer from the EU to Scotland would be a scary prospect for the countries of the UK.

All this discussion about TP got me thinking.

What if, instead of days, months and years, we measured our life events in TP?

The TP I buy contains an average of 220 sheets per roll, and I use about 8 sheets per "visit" IYKWIM. :) , and I generally make one visit per day, at home.

That means a roll lasts 27.5 days.

Based on that, the biblical lifespan (3 score years and 10) lasts for just 930 rolls of TP.

    Not much, is it? :(

Any plans to update the formula for various bottom related medical issues? ;)
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
