It would be lovely if you added something CONSTRUCTIVE to the thread. Discussions on abstract matters are best on the discussion thread btw
There's that capitalisation thing again. :-)
The gentleman concerned seems to have a clique of followers, for whom he can never be wrong; I'd like to see his predictions tested in a throughly scientific and statistical way, for all I know he might well be on to something.
However he and his follows getting all defensive and using abusive language, indicates a 'them and us' attitude that's not conducive to progress.0 -
Another one here who finds FB pies revolting, slimy pastry and sloppy fillings. I wouldn't turn my nose up at one in an emergency, one or two bought on special offer and stashed in the cupboard is ok by me. It's just that the pictures on the tins and packets of these processed meals look really delicious - but the contents, when you hoick them out of the oven, are a big let-down (a pie in the face, you might say..)
My problem is, since I've gone all OS (or fairly OS, bearing in mind I work full time and like modern conveniences) I have learnt to cook good food from scratch. Tinned soups, while handy in an emergency, are nowhere near as good as home-made soup - and to think I was once a 57 varieties cream of tomato soup addict! Just tastes like water, now...and nothing like tomato. One life - your life - live it!0 -
For those looking for camping/survival equipment, the good news is, it's back in £land and B&M.
£land have two of our favourites, namely packs of 2 Space Blankets, and the collapsible LED camping lanterns.
B&M have the gas camping stove (still at £8-99) and the nesting mess tins at £2-99.0 -
I was approached earlier, by a young woman, asking for directions to Tesco.
I gave her directions, and said "I'm heading that way, so just follow me".
I set off and she was about 10 steps behind me.
I glanced back and she was heading in a completely different direction :huh:0 -

for goodness sake armyknife just drop it. Pot and kettle etc I have better things to do than to think of witty answers to destructive criticisms. Anyway I am not answering any more of your posts and yes I am sure you will want to have the last word. Next!!!0 -

Like you I have had to find ways to cook. Most of mine is OS now, as much as possible from scratch as I can make it. Heinz cream of tomato soup was my favourite, but so expensive. Now I make my own with a simple recipe and so much cheaper. Also I am sure of what is in it. Best of all there are no additives at all.
I started making all the changes when I noticed how much everything was, and how much junk was in them. My tactic was to pick one recipe at a time. So started with curries as I used to eat them all the time. By switching out jars of ready to use processed sauces I was able to make an even greater variety than is available in the stores in the jars. So when the horse meat scandal hit I was completely immune because I had already stopped buying ready mince. In fact in the last week, there have been a number of food recalls in the US, that must be having the same impact on consumer confidence there.
What I am thinking is how amazing we have all been suckered in to accepting processed foods are a time and money saver. Yes going OS is more time consuming but a lot cheaper, and a lot healthier without all the additives they need to add to keep it on the shelves for longer. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Buggalugs is incredibly picky.
If you put a handful of cat biscuits in her bowl, she looks at it, then stands there with a "how dare you?" look on her face, until you stir in a large spoonful of meat.0 -

All this discussion about TP got me thinking.
What if, instead of days, months and years, we measured our life events in TP?
The TP I buy contains an average of 220 sheets per roll, and I use about 8 sheets per "visit" IYKWIM., and I generally make one visit per day, at home.
That means a roll lasts 27.5 days.
Based on that, the biblical lifespan (3 score years and 10) lasts for just 930 rolls of TP.
Not much, is it?0
