Very useful, especially the part about "Should I take my family (and could I eat them)?" :rotfl:

To actually have a plan is still better than 90% even if you have not completed all your supplies re a full SHTF moment. You will be far better off than most.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Oh, my washing machine just died. Have a policy on this but they say it'll be 2 weeks before they can come out. Rung the local launderette who say it's £3.50 per wash, but this means also transport cost and the time of waiting for the wash to finish. Just going to take minimal amounts.
It's £3.40 at the one I use and £4.40 for the extra big machines. But even the smaller one takes a lot more than the average domestic washer. So I save my laundry up and go every two weeks using two machines at the same time. It makes it much more effective time and travel wise. Plus I go when it is market day so I do my shopping while it is whizzing round :T

:) Bless! Post-Apocalapse, we'll need all the Guardian journalists we can get...........:rotfl:
:D I should expand upon that; there's good eating on a Guardian journalist. It's their superior diet and Pilates/ jogging toned musculature, plus the complete absence of bitterness.

I have now taken my meds and had a little nap and may possibly make it throught the rest of the evening without gibbering.

I did try asking a colleague if he'd contemplating assassinating my neigbour-from-hell and he asked how much I was offering and looked underwhelmed by my £2.50 in spare change. Blast it.

Seriously. Grammar is a life-and-death matter to the Sensibilians and the supply of various forms of punctuation is closely-controlled.
Tsssk never mind the grammar. When I am Grand Dictator I will issue orders to shoot on sight anyone who spells the noun licence as license. I will also abolish the term cupcake and other abominable Americanisms.
I suppose while I'm at it I might as well get rid of some of my more irritating neighbours. Starting with next door but one

;) Send a fertility prayer. I'm hoping my 'orrible neighbour will have an enfant and move on from these (one bedroom) flats. We've got lucky like that before now.

pineapple, d'you have septic tanks? They can be a positive contribution to neighbourly relations, I hear.

I have now stabilised myself from wibbly to relatively normal. I have chitted my potatoes (stop sniggering in the back) and shoved the stick blender through the soup I made on Saturday, which is a rather unappealing sludgy colour but tastes delish. Chopped very finely amongst the proper veg of parsnips and onions, but a major component, was broccoli and cabbage stalks. Waste not, want not, sez I.

This week's scheduled preptastic task is to switch over the water in one of my big carriers. It'll go into the tub and have hot added to it for a relaxing soak, and I'll refill it. Doing a 3 month rotation on the carriers, they're not all on the same schedule which keeps it from being tedious.

I've had several calls from The Public in recent months to say that they've just woken up to no water (always droll at 11.45 am, we find) and when I call Tiddleupmpty Water, they tell me it's a burst water main or pump failure. They manage to get the water back on but it can be anything from 1-3 hours. And that's with a functional economy and no mass crisis going on.

One thing I found very believeable about the book Last Light is that lack of water became the crisis in a day or two, not lack of food. As in desperate people doing desperate things. Remember the rule of three; 3 mins without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.

So, look your water supplies, lovely peeps. And any Guardian journalist about can be sure that they have their Ev ian handy.

    Very true, GQ, very true.

I loved that Guardian article - it was mocking, but there was an underlying core of "ooh, commonsense" - and the pic at the top said it all!

I'd make it soon, if I were you.

But can I do without - or will I be dusting off the Maestro Card?

I've been doing without, for the last 4 years.

I've also been doing without the TV, for the last 4 years. :D
