CTC, a friend of mine who also has the 'bigger calves' issue, also recommends these, slightly cheaper than the Aigles:

I am astonished at how demanding some of the people interviewed on TV are, do they not realise it's almost unprecedented amounts of rainfall.

I wonder if the people interviewed on Sky/BBC, just back from a holiday to South America, returning to an about to be flood house, have done any joined up thinking regarding cause and effect?

I'm glad I'm not alone in shaking my head at the people on TV. It is very sad for those that are flooded, but what are the EA and PTB supposed to do, perform a sundance? The rain levels we have received are unprecedented and sadly it has to go somewhere.

I am sorry for the people affected, and i have lived in an area that suffered horrendous flooding in 1998. So i know how shocking and horrific it all is, but we had no warning of rising water, no chance to sandbag or move goods, we all just awoke to it. We received no help afterwards, and barely any help at the time. We were lucky in that the water receded quickly but the damage is still massive.

I do understand peoples frustrations and shock but the weather can't be helped!

The weather forecast this morning has flagged up the fact that on Friday we will probably be having a front pass over the country that will drop 1 months worth of rain as it passes over us, mainly the southern half of the country from the map they showed. If you are in an already flooded area, GREENBEE particularly, and you have access to sandbags today and tomorrow it would be a VERY good idea to see how many you can aquire as you'll probably need them. They aren't always right with the prediction but the area of 'green' which is used to indicate very heavy rainfall is huge!!! Good luck everyone, catch you all on Friday as off to visit the Grandson for a couplke of days, Lyn xxx.

Should have been 30th week of kelp this week but I have been without for just over a week after finishing the bottle. I had such a terrible sleepless and painful night on Monday night I went out Tuesday morning and bought some of the ones Mardatha suggested. My others were from the netherlands and housebuilders shop.

What a difference even after the first one! I must have had a residue of the anti inflammatory property in my system because within an hour the pain was reduced. Although these are only one tablet a day compared to the three of the others I decided to take another before bed and I slept all night pain free :) The others took about a week or so before I noticed a difference.

Dh noticed I was a lot better so he insists I start stocking up :)

I'm still on it grandma but the ME came back recently after a week of dentist appointments, I think it was the adrenaline in the jab. Taking life easy, staying positive and upbeat, and expecting it to lift again lol.
Just a had row with the RV, who does not understand coal fires at all, although we've had one for 40 years..
Our water is off today from 8-8, and before I got up he stoked up the fire like it's the bloody Titanic. When I brought out the bottled water he told me I was being OTT and he wasn't drinking "that stuff". I tried (once more for the 900th time) to explain the connection between coal fires and exploding back boilers - and he says I'm daft and it will be fine!!

I keep changing my mind on this. On the one hand many people expect the state to fix everything - though some people did roll up their sleeves to help their - and even other communities. But imo there should have been earlier and better managed assistance.
This has shown up the holes in both personal preparedness/responsibility and government disaster management.
  • Don't get me wrong, I don't think the agencies are blameless in this. I do think there are things that could have been done to at least alleviate some of the problem. River dredging may or may not have helped, but even if it was a short term fix, as suggested by some, surely it is better than no fix at all.

Regardless though, i do think that however much work had been done, the problem would still exist, it may even just push it to another area further down river for example.

One thing that needs to be addressed is the building on flood plains, not the communities that have stood for years, but the new builds that are springing up. Like i mentioned earlier we had severe floods here, since then they have built on 2 huge flood plain areas right by where i live, if we were to have the same situation again the flooding would reach a far larger area than before due to this.

There are many faults and areas that need to be looked at, it is just the attitude of blame culture that annoys me.
