Nice cheap one (with good reviews) here.

Or, if you fancy one with Solar and USB charging, as well as wind up.

We've got the one on the second link although we haven't used the usb charger function it charges nicely on the windowsill.

    Hi all,

Not been around as I had no internet for a week:eek:

I have sooo missed it. Made me realise how much info I have online and could do with having to hand.

I've switched broadband suppliers and it should have changed over on 29th/30th Jan, but just went off. It's still not fixed because BT have to deal with it and there's a problem with the internal computer system so that ee can't tell BT via the computer system that the job needs doing!!!!!!!:mad::mad: I did point out that they are real people who are able to communicate with each other, but , no, they can't do the work until the computer can log it:eek: and it will be next Tuesday at the earliest before they can even make an appointment with BT!! To say I am fuming is an understatement, but upon threatening to cancel my contact I got them to buy me a dongle so at least I can get online until they sort it out. So this is where we are folks, people are being run by computers - not quite in a sci fi way but still a bit scary all the same! this is what I get for trying to save a few pennies:(

Siegemode - I hear you. I feel so helpless sometimes. I feel like I should be able to 'do' something but what can you do? As my DS1 puts it - you give yourself 'the fear' and then you can't function because you get so overwhelmed. I started looking more at positive things, a bit airy fairy some may think but just about the balance of nature and how awesome it all is and then I thought - we all end up as compost in the end even the CEO of Nestle who thinks that water shouldn't be a 'right' and wants to patent the fennel flower as they have 'discovered' it has medicinal qualities. I will just live my life as feel is right and balanced as that's what I can do. Be the change you want to see in the world, as Ghandi put it, as you can't save the world all by yourself the world, but you can change your part of it... and you might inspire others along the way too.
Remember to take care of yourself.

    Here's a nice inspiring blog

  • JC Be careful with BT giving you a 'free' dongle that has got to be issued under contract, but they say I will not pay anything... exactly the same thing happened with us at work.. and a few months after, they started charging us for the dongle... and there is no record of them offering us the dongle for free... I am still at logaheads with them...

This has also reminded me I need to kick butt again with them on Monday..

Daz378, find your nearest vintage/retro emporium! I've sold ammo boxes in the past, usually for about a tenner; they're intriguing, but not too hard to come by. If you're lucky you might find one at a car boot sale for quite a lot less; that's where I usually pick them up.

See if you can find a metal biscuit tin (the sort that's in the shops around Christmas), These usually have tight fitting lids, but sealing with aluminium tape will ensure a complete shield.
Ammo boxes can be sourced from army surplus shops or on ebay, these tend to have fairly poor fitting lids - suggestions include lining the closure with steel wool as well as using conductive tape. (They also attract attention)
At the larger end, an all metal dustbin, though again, you'd need to pay particular attention to sealing the lid.

You could cover a cardboard box in two layers of aluminium foil and have a decent shield.

Cornishchick and Thriftkitten's snow fix for the day -

"Heavy snowfalls over Scotland's mountains have almost buried buildings at ski centres in Glencoe and Nevis Range.

Falling and drifting snow has also almost reached the tops of some ski tow pylons at Glenshee Ski Resort.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that the upper runs of three Scottish ski resorts had more snow than Whistler in Canada."

JayneC my god that's a lovely blog you posted! My mum's side is from the west of Ireland and I always fancied going back there to live..it's a far milder climate than this one I have here.
I don't know if I could live like that - the cottage looks so cluttered it would drive me insane - but I like her thinking. TY for that xx
  • JayneC Thats a beautiful, inspiring blog link. Thanks! Happily bookmarked.
  • Happy bunny bouncing & squeaking here! Just back from the car boot sale, where I found a pair of large, lined, undamaged Sanderson curtains for 20p and an immaculate Spong marmalade shredder for £5. I could treble my money on that, if I were so inclined, but it just so happens that I have two boxes of Seville oranges, plenty of jars and 25Kg of sugar hanging around. Also I hate shredding them by hand & electrical gadgets basically just pulp them, so this one is probably going to take up residence in my kitchen! I'd been using an old mincer & just slicing one up thinly per batch. Mind you, we'll have enough marmalade to get us clear through to 2020, as there's already a shelf-full out in the garage, but never mind, I can give some of it away!
