  • So sorry to hear that Rainy-days. I have a lump in my throat just imagining how you might be feeling.
Is there a chance he has a bit of a stomach bug or some dodgy food? Rather than it being a progression/age?

I see you may be near to me, I have a stash of puppy pads you're welcome to have if they will help him/you keep clean?
  • Rainy-Days So sorry about your dog, know how you feel I lost my dog 9 months ago he was 10years old. Broke my heart to let him go, I still get teary now when I think of him.

    (((hugs)))

  • I was reading on another thread about free University courses and came across one on prepping for disasters and how to work out personal plans of action. The date of it has not been announced yet, but its done online and sounds really interesting. You can sign up for it here:
    https://www.coursera.org/course/disasterprep

I have signed up...if I get through the next few months unscathed I will enjoy doing the course.

Worth noting on the thread too about the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning using camping stoves/heaters indoors. They are lethal (killers) if used inside a tent, or even at the doorway let alone inside a house.

And disposable barbecues - as noted in a tragic camping case earlier in the summer

Well the S has hit the fan in this house this weekend. Biff, our beautiful black labrador may have to be put to sleep on Monday. Last night his incontinence became worse, we had two loads in the kitchen in the space of three and half hours. We thought we were over the worst of it, but he then went again in his sleep. To look at him you would say he is old and doddery, but coping. To all intents and purposes he is, but the incontinence is difficult to deal with.

He is on tramadol and metacam which keeps him ticking over and allows him to walk without pain, but obviously with his back end in a bad way that also means that he is losing the ability to hold his poo and that is causing him to also feel bad about it. Although we don't go bananas with him, we put him outside then I set about clearing it all up and putting scented candles on, we know that we cannot go on for much longer either.

If you saw him down the field an hour aga you would think he didn't have a care in the world just ambling along, but we know that we are now on seriously big borrowed time with him. For a labrador to get to 14 years old, that is pretty good going but it is also going to be hard to make that decision and I cannot tell you how much I have cried today over it all. We are making the best out of it, but on the flip side I don't want to be selfish and keep him alive because I cannot bear to let him go.

Having animals brings so much joy, so much love and happiness and brings out the best in humans; but the pain of letting them go is beyond words!

    So sorry for you.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Rainy-Days I am so sorry to hear about your poor dog (((HUGS))) to you and all your family, it is so heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet.

    2Tonsils, belated happy birthday.

On my return from holidays (and to this thread) I am delighted to see that in spite of being "reported" and this thread having endured lots of inane bickering, commonsense did in fact prevail, thank you Andrea!

Sorry I had to go through the posts very quickly as there is so much to catch up on, so many pieces of interesting information that are so relevant, from lacto-fermentation to free university courses on preparedness. Will have to give myself the time to go through all these in details.

Meanwhile I am finding myself not too well prepared at the moment, while I was away DD and DS ate a lot of my stocks, so need to re-build my stock cupboard. Need to find decent and not too expensive wind up radio, torch and a solar mobile charger. Lots of things to think about!

Glad to be back home and on the thread, looking forward and hoping to become a fully paid up member of C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z.!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
