Staples had Nicky's Soft Touch at £7.50 for 36 rolls last time I needed to stock up; not the first place you'd look but worth stocking up while you're there.

Staples online is now out of stock of said item, I bet half this thread has emptied the warehouse!! :rotfl: I am down to about 60 loo rolls, and only 2  tins of tommies - do hope I don't get defrocked!

Been going through my seed stash, to find I have only herbs left, must have given food ones away, so off to restock this afternoon, and look at seed spuds and onion sets. Even if I can only grow a few bits each year, it'll help keep the wolf from the door.

Alec Salmond has always said it would be mad to close the border and he won't. I think there's an awful lot of hype and lies floating around so we just need to wait and see. I don't want to get into politics on here because on the discussion thread they got really nasty and racist and I'm not getting dragged into that stuff. We are preppers first and foremost in here :):)

Absolutely, hun! Traverses all geographical and political boundaries. :D

I'd be tempted to convert some of it to English banknotes - I can't see Salmond and co successfully closing the border, but I can see English businesses that are currently happy to accept Scottish notes becoming reluctant or refusing them.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting he'd try. I was saying that successfully closing the border was unlikely, therefore crossing the border to spend sterling would always be an option.
If I had my druthers, I'd move the border down to the Tyne and vote for independence.
Prepping for the result of the vote, it makes sense to consider the possible outcomes and prep accordingly.

Silly question time...........I live in Scotland and as you know we will be voting for independence or not, soon. There has been a lot mentioned about our money and how we may not be able to keep the pound ect.Because I am nervous about the banks,I have a stash of money at home, all scottish notes.would it be best to try and swap it for English notes?(we visit family a couple of times a year, could spend it then)or put it on giftcards. Will it become useless if we change currency?I know there might be a transition period but I don't trust banks or governments. The money is all declared but I don't like it in the bank because of what happened in Greese,ATM not working and banks telling us we can't have our hard earned cash unless we can prove what we want it for.I don't want to leave it to the last minute. Thanks

You know what. I have been thinking about your question since you asked it. I think Scottish Pound notes might be quite a good safeguard against inflation in the event Scotland changes to another currency.

Okay, they might not be accepted in English shops, but if they are notes from Royal Bank of Scotland, presumably all you need to do is drop into the first branch you find south of the border, and ask for them to be changed into English pounds.
  • Started clearing out unnecessary items from house today, so I can get access to things we actually need and use.
Decided to check stash of household supplies while I was at it, most are rather chaotically stored in my bedroom :o. Got plenty of soap, toothpaste and shampoo (for a few months at least) but could do with a few additions like essential oils, and you can never have too many candles :D.
Will have a think over the weekend of anything I might be missing and purchase over the next few days.

We've had horizontal snow then sleet then rain battering the front windows here all day. I was sitting here pottering around gardening sites and heard a funny wee fizzing noise...thought it was the radiator beside me so had a twiddle, but no wasn't that. Got the RV over to have a poke around and the rain is coming in the window, running down the wall, and onto the phone socket! So much for the new double glazing - the old windows never let in lol. Just wonder what would have happened nest, would the thing go bang and we would lose phone and/or internet? Got towels folded up on windowsill for tonight anyway.
