The batteries in my 9 LED torch finally quit working, a few minutes ago.
That means they have been working for (wait for it) 320 hours.
On the subject of batteries, does anyone use AAA rechargeable batteries?
I ask because, ASDA are selling packs of 4 x 1000mAh batteries for £7-50, or two packs for £8.0 -

TBH, I think most cases are where parents won't (rather than can't) provide breakfast.0 -
Our infants' school will be starting a breakfast club some time this year, think it's aimed at those who currently have free school dinners, but most of the kids who don't get breakfast are from these chaotic families, not necessarily poverty-stricken ones.
. We had an event a while ago where we went into school at 8am, and school provided breakfast, lots of choices, and hot drinks for adults, etc., but the families whose kids actually needed it were, unfortunately, those who couldn't or wouldn't get there so early.
Even during very lean times, I would rather poke pins in my eyes than let my children go hungry at any time of day, think that's how parents are biologically programmed!

I'm creating a folder of 'useful information', stuff like how to use bleach to purify drinking water, how to build a hobo stove, basic first aid.
Here's the page for water purifying with bleach.

If its a case of parents won't provide nurishment for their children well it's neglect and SS SHOULD be acting surely?0

tea cake, i've learnt from experience have board games, books, colouring books, lots of colours, paints to keep yourself entertained!!
I'd add a wind up radio to that list.
They needn't cost a fortune.
Here's one for a tenner.

I shake my head in dismay. I am involved in a case where we're having a lot of dialog with SS for the good of a person/people in need and to be honest that is all it is at the moment - dialog initiated by us and very little action. SS are a life line. Social workers are a group of people that I really do admire and appreciate they are a quiet force working for the very basics for people but something is changing I feel and I suspect it's down to over worked/less resourced staff and who suffers? The vulnerable in our society.
Judge a country on how well they care for their most vulnerable.
Ginny when you make the chocolate porridge cake will you mention if it's worth a gothanks

Agreed, but you can't blame TPTB, if parents won't budget for breakfasts, or have the money, but just CBA to prepare breakfast for their children.
It's the same with children who go to school in nappies, unable to eat with a fork, and unable to tie their own shoelaces.
That's entirely the fault of CBA parents, not TPTB.0 -

BB those comments are wholly offensive and I suspect you will have upset many a person by them. I worked with children with needs in schools for a good 10 years and not once could I attribute your view to the scenario you describe.
We are all entitled to our opinion but please think carefully about how you express it sometimes.0
