:T Welcome to C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z. charlies-aunt.
I'm having brekkie and trawling the interwebs. Am vastly amused to see that the adverts aimed at me on ZH are now in French. WTH?! Can't imagine what triggered that blip.
I now know where to buy industrial cement mixers from. The two others are some kind of financial services but my french isn't up to working what they are, nor is my interest piqued enough to translate.
Faites attention, Z 'Edge.
Je ne parlais pas francais. Je preferait parlais "gibberish".
That's [STRIKE]probably[/STRIKE] certainly not correct french btw; haven't done any since my schooldays and wasn't brilliant at it then.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I am looking at the ideal of doing all this as a money savings idea and also because it is less toxic to the environment.
I used it for two years when we did the live on £4,000 challenge so we could over pay our mortgage. It works fine but whites need a commercial powder wash occasionally to keep them white. I have no idea what else would work because blueing did not work on synthetics.0 -
I think commercial powders contain optical brightening agents which make whites look whiter.
With natural fibres you can line-dry them and the sun will have a brightening effect but it actually yellows white synthetics. What to do with a white poly-cotton, hey?
I think I recall reading somewhere that linen used to be bleached by laying it flat on grass, centuries ago? Something about something (oxygen?) being given off by the grass, as well as the sun, helping to bleach the newly-woven linen.
One of the trivial disappointments of flat-dwelling (don't even have a balcony) is that I can't dry washing outside. Just love that line-dried scent.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Ginny I suspect you might be arrested if you did hand out the twinks etc. Health and safety and all that y'know
I posted this on the OS thread but have posted it here for those who don't follow it. It is what I always suspected, kids need unsupervised play and a little danger to develop normally.0 -

I am going to empty my Halifax account tomorrow over the counter
I suspect there will be a feeding frenzy going on over at certain conspiracy sites but it at least demonstrates the fragility of 'the system'.
My mission this week - should I choose to accept it - is to cash in one of my two remaining ISAs.0 -

Thr grubbyment is making noises about chucking more affluent tenants out of their socially-rented homes. Nothing in law yet. I'd be chary about giving that info if you might consider yourself "more affluent".
Unless you are on a means-tested benefit, I can't think of a good reason for your social landlord needing that information. But I can think of plenty of bad ones.
Heading to w*rk; play nicely.Laters, GQ xx

Bob if you claim housing benefit then you have to tell them your income.0

Surely, if their household income was so low their parent couldn't afford money for their dinners, they'd qualify for free school meals?I'll be honest, most of the kids who are going without come from families with a chaotic lifestyle rather than poor
I can believe this.
While benefits may not be hugely generous, they are sufficient to provide food for the family, so it's down to the parent(s) to ensure it is spent appropriately.
I suspect you will find, in the majority of cases, the parents are spending on luxuries, such as tobacco products, alcohol, pay TV, takeaways, etc.
I have a friend who, many years ago, used to work in a grocer/tobacconist, and they tell of huge numbers of cases, where people would try to buy alcohol and/or tobacco, using milk tokens.
IMO, that is beneath contempt. :mad:0
