;) I was thinking of hunting down a cartoon version of that one, too, but was a bit concerned where my browser might lead me!

If people are trying really hard to tell you one thing, I think you need to ask yourself what don't they want you to notice. Like that old trick to distract a shopkeeper; break something small and make a big fuss to draw the attention and then the accomplice makes off with something else.

As a result of years selling stuff at bootsales, I learned to look 180 degrees away from the direction of a breakage immediately; it's amazing what you can catch if you're quick enough.

One of these mornings, we will wake up to sombre faces and voices and discover someone ran off with our wealth whilst we slept. And that of our kids and grandkids, too. The barstewards. I'd be very suspicious of the dates of any bank holidays, here or in the USA. Watch out around Easter Weekend, plus the two May bank holibobs.

Keep questioning the news, lovely peeps, it's going to tell you what you need to know when it's too late to do anything about it. Prep onwards.
I agree with you. If everything is so rosy why today did police chiefs ask for permission to use water cannons to deal with the impact of austerity?

I expect another financial crisis of even greater magnitude than 2008 because our supreme leaders have been stupid enough to double down on the same policies that got us into this mess i.e. too much debt, with the Help to Buy scheme. It might be this year or a few years down the line. It might take a while to all unravel so I preparing to get solvent so I am not hampered by debt, and then to get some camping kit because I suspect that unless you have not mortgage this will be the outcome for millions of us.

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment. Saving for a house deposit and getting naff all in interest and when we come to buy you can guarantee the interest rates will go up

And where do we keep our money in the meantime? You can't just deposit a load of cash when you want to buy a house or Questions Will Be Asked.

Still, we have jobs, income and can make savings so we shouldn't complain - plus a stash of FB pies :) so we are rich in so many ways :D

the FB tins have been changed , now deeper and can be difficult to open , had to use a new cheap type kept as spare, possibly made to cut open along outside edge [ did not check]

OH tried to open an FB pie with an electric can opener and had no luck but our good grips (?) can opener had no problems.

We only had the electric can opener and had no manual can opener until reading this thread made me rush out to buy one :D

Be careful if you have your money in the bank that you spread it around. The new bank rescue rules mean that any deposits above the deposit protection scheme will be raided if there is a banking crisis. The only benefit of keeping cash is if there is complete anarchy but there will be signs of problems at the banks so we should basically empty our accounts at the first sign of trouble.

Don't know if this is any good lynn regarding meals or hot drinks to feel less hungry.

When I was a child my adopted mum /nana used to make us bovril with bread or crackers.
Its basically a beef oxo cube and a veg oxo cube crushed up and mixed up with hot water. This served in a mug or cup with either dry bread or dry crackers.
Absolutely wonderful I make it for the four of us and we all sip it cuddled under a blanket. Its great camping food too
I know its silly but it was a great luxury for us and always made us feel full. Just on sunday I was with my bio mum and shared memories of, this in, front of the coal fire.

My family were farmers and worked in ici and british steel. Originally came from ireland them moved to the north ready to work in the mines and things.

Another two meals are broth with country soup mix and bacon shank. Or without the, shank and veg. Another is my mums, version of pinacilti basically veg, cornbeef with gravy granules and, served with bread and dumpling.
Very, filling and, perfect winter food.

This article was linked to on PP today.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/experts/article-2540445/What-maximum-money-I-withdraw-HSBC.html

HSBC reckon they prevent anyone withdrawing more than £1000 to protect their customers and prevent financial crime.

They then go on to say you can transfer whatever you want by cheque or bank transfer. Hello?...

Isn't it more likely to be because they actually have £1000 deducted from their central bank account when they hand out £1000 in notes, but cheque or direct transfers are likely to go to other HSBC accounts or be averaged out over the next few days by other transactions going in to HSBC?

More on the BBC website about this:

Seem to be back-tracking a bit now

Something seems to be kicking off with emerging economies' currencies.....

Hmmm it won't let me link, but it works ok if I post it into my browser.

I suspect the cynical amongst you are right, and that there is some kind of new / continuation of the old banking crisis looming :(

:( Yeah, the article linked re HSBC is quoted on Z Hedge now.

As one of the commentators near the top remarks sarcastically, it's not as if they launder money for drug cartels themselves or anything like that. Perhaps depositors ought to attend branches en masse and demand of HSBC exactly what they are doing with their deposits?

Speaking of it, I better get dressed and get up to my bank to make sure that there isn't too much in there over and above what's needed to cover my direct debits next week.

I have come to the opinion that money in a bank isn't safe and that I need to regard anything on deposit as a potential sacrifice to The Beast.

No doubt there is some entrepreneur even now designing mattresses with built in banking pockets. Gotta be a market for that, somewhere. ;)

I could understand it if a little elderly person was getting a large amount of cash out, especially if there was a "builder, roofer or any other" stood right next to them because it does happen that they are bullied into getting out large amounts by cowboys. Someone needs to question a withdrawal then but for most people it is insulting.
