How do you open the tin? I have tried three different openers and can't get the tin open at all!
This week seems to have disappeared. Going to funeral on Tuesday and staying at B&B overnight, travelling home Wednesday morning and then hospital visit taking up this morning has left us wondering where the time went.
Have been trying out recipes from a couple of the H***y Dieters books. So far everything has been tasty and everyone seems to have enjoyed the meals.
Seems like a very long month and had to pay house insurance which takes a big chunk but needs doing.

Hi elona, I just use my old Bra.bantia tin opener and it's no probs. I open them 4 at a time as I batch-bake, freeze 3 then defrost and heat thru in the bain marie.
What kinds of tin openers are you struggling with? I've had mine about 16 years and it wasn't new then.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Here in the tesco 50 miles down the coast they are £1.50, on special offer.
Elona we use the tin-opener upside down - works a treat (just turn the tin over, put on the tin-opener, flip it over and turn the handle)

He says that the Bank of England has just announced it 'had to' phase out its dollar swap operations.
I do recall hearing this 'dollar swap' expression before, but not been entirely sure what it meant. Searching for it on Google brought up this on Bloomberg:

Are things are really getting better, as they seem to imply, or is it just that the cost of cooking the books has become unsustainable?0 -
Funny about FB pies being the subject of the thread; I defrosted a cooked one last night and have half of it in the bain marie above the steamer. I never pay more than £1 for them. They turn up, and also the lookie-likee Princes tinned pies, at £1 regularly. FF, Icelandia, 99p Store, occasionally Liddly.
I think we'll have to send a care package up to Mar.
Mar there is a 99p shop in scotland - Ayr though? That's where I got my Fb's from. They tend to do the chicken one most often which is a non-starter for me, though. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

There's some sobering info out there. I cannot believe most of the positive soundbites coming from official channels. More people in work, wages going up faster than prices??? Where? Not anywhere I can see. I increasingly find myself saying 'B*llocks' to the radio when I hear this carp. I wonder how long before people in general will finally accept that things are not just being manipulated but that we are being fed total lies by TPTB. If I had any money I would definitely not be keeping it in the bank and would be buying tangible assets, hopefully I'll get to that point before it's too late. But at least I've not much to lose...Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

Hummous recipe
Approx 4oz (a handful) of dried chickpeas soakedover night in plenty ofwater and half tsp bicarb.
Then I cook it in the slowcooker, with plenty of water, til it's soft (you can simmer on the hob if you've no slowcooker).
Drain.
Add a tbsp tahini, clove garlic, crushed, juice of 1 lemon, salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper, a slosh of olive oil and mash with potato masher. You can use a blender if you want to but I find it fine with the masher. Add more or less oil depending on how sloppy you like it:DOfficial DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'
