jk0, what I'm taking away from the present barrage of "happy talk" is that TPTB and their pressitutes are trying really really hard to make out that, to steal a phrase from Candide, is that it's all for the best, in this best of all possible worlds. We're all Panglossians, now.
A pal of mine put it more succinctly; you can roll a t **d in glitter but it still stinks.:rotfl:
Yup, inflation isn't that bad and all of those millions of [STRIKE]debt serfs[/STRIKE] sorry citizens who are struggling to pay their bills just aren't thinking Happy Thoughts hard enough. Those of wage earners who have seen our wages in effective reverse for many years are just a bunch of whingers. House prices can go up forever and it's all going to come out in the wash.
I detect a hint of desperation, the whiff of panic in the air. I suspect that the wheels are about to come off something, probably the whole bliddy economy, and that TPTB are trying to lull the masses into continuing business as normal for as long as possible.
Being a nasty little cynic (it's a valid philosohical position, IMO) my reaction to being happy talked is to buy more tins, extract more money from the bank and to prepare the brace position.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I was thinking of hunting down a cartoon version of that one, too, but was a bit concerned where my browser might lead me!
If people are trying really hard to tell you one thing, I think you need to ask yourself what don't they want you to notice. Like that old trick to distract a shopkeeper; break something small and make a big fuss to draw the attention and then the accomplice makes off with something else.
As a result of years selling stuff at bootsales, I learned to look 180 degrees away from the direction of a breakage immediately; it's amazing what you can catch if you're quick enough.
One of these mornings, we will wake up to sombre faces and voices and discover someone ran off with our wealth whilst we slept. And that of our kids and grandkids, too. The barstewards. I'd be very suspicious of the dates of any bank holidays, here or in the USA. Watch out around Easter Weekend, plus the two May bank holibobs.
Keep questioning the news, lovely peeps, it's going to tell you what you need to know when it's too late to do anything about it. Prep onwards.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

How do you open the tin? I have tried three different openers and can't get the tin open at all!
This week seems to have disappeared. Going to funeral on Tuesday and staying at B&B overnight, travelling home Wednesday morning and then hospital visit taking up this morning has left us wondering where the time went.
Have been trying out recipes from a couple of the H***y Dieters books. So far everything has been tasty and everyone seems to have enjoyed the meals.
Seems like a very long month and had to pay house insurance which takes a big chunk but needs doing.
