Cheers Craig. Stupid thing is, we both feel a damned site happier now we've discussed and decided.
Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

Metherer, good luck in your new life stage. Its exciting from one side, you will have a new house to do with what you want. Of course its sad too but am glad its amicable and I know a lot of people who would love to be able to do it that way.

Hollyberry how is hubby today? do hope he is improving, I am sure he will soon be at the annoying stage :rotfl: Mine has lost his memory stick - I imagine he has put it somewhere safe, maybe he should have tried that in the first place and told me where the safe place was  Its only got the entire cricket details for the league he helps so nothing crucial :D

Off to make some chocolates, sort of bounty coconut type of things - may well be a necessity if the SHTF - moral comes first !

After due consideration I have decided to work towards buying some woodland. I will need to pay off my debts, which hopefully I can do this year and both DS and I will need to develop some skills and knowledge to be able to manage it effectively. So I reckon 2-3 years time I will sell the house and buy a woodland with the proceeds. We can then rent a small house or flat as a base. I will have no debt and no mortgage and some woodland, what could go wrong ;)

So prepping will involve learning as many useful skills as possible, researching possible sites, getting the house into some kind of order...

Ah yes ginny, and thanks for asking. At first I read that your OH had lost his memory rather than his memory stick! Mind you, the memory stick itself could be pretty traumatic in cricketing terms.

I am pleased to report the annoying stage has definitely been reached! ;) Notably at approximately 11.55 last night when he advised me that he had run out of his prescription completely, and so I'd need to pop out and collect it from the doc then the chemist this morning in time for his morning dosage. Brrrh! It was a cold, bracing and fairly lengthy walk, but he's now fully tableted and the recipient of a stern lecture about having more than 5 days left in stock should SHTF. ;)

But on a more serious note, he's definitely on the mend, and up to shuffling around using a stick. Doc is booked for Friday, painkillers more successfully utilised, and I am very relieved.

Metherer - sorry to hear that, although I can hear a kind of sense of relief that the decision is made. It must be a strange time thinking about a very different life from here on. Wishing you all the best for a new future.

And Pollyjuice - it may have been a couple of pages back, but was very funny indeed and just what I needed. :D

You might want to check your emergency money stashes folks for any £50 notes with Sir John Houblon on the back. They are being withdrawn on 30th April 2014, and no doubt will raise awkward questions if you try to use them after that.

See here for more information: http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/Pages/about/faqs.aspx#50d

Thank you for this. I have a relative who favours the Banque de Mattress and it turns out they have a lot of these.

It makes me wonder if this is a ploy to make the older generation declare what they have saved.

Hollyberry guessed you would take it as I meant it :rotfl: Apologys to male posters but married men are well known for the annoying stage but Bob you dont have that problem and Nuatha you sound like a sterling chap.

OH went to a cricket meeting tonight but didnt need the memory stick....Phew....however he came back stunned - 2 members of the league have been arrested after being involved in a 2 million pound drug money laundering racket  they call here often during the season to register players (my job) and are nice people - just shows you never know! he has gone back to his bed now, I think he is shocked and his friend who took him was very upset.

Jaynec sounds like a plan, look forward to hearing about your journey.

I had to change all mine some time ago. One idea is just to take say £500 to each bank in the high street every week. I only have about ten £50 notes now, as I read about what happened to the 50 & 100 ruble notes in Russia in 1991:

Edit: Make that £200 per bank folks. I just found this video:

    A couple of points:

    Coppers do arrest innocent people.
    Innocent until proven guilty?

So they could still be nice people, possibly in need of help/support.
