Do you know if the tickets are on sale yet to watch the 'fat cats' leave for space? I'd hate to miss out on waving bye bye!!!
More austerity measures to come? most certainly and that's precisely why we need to learn and keep alive all the skills available to our forebears before there was a welfare state to catch those who fell. If we do that we can re educate mankind and reintroduce the concept that every person is valued and valuable to the community we might have a chance of getting a viable society up and running after the inevitable changes due to the shortages that are not just going to happen, but in some cases happening right now!!!Lyn xxx.0 -

Wise words (as usual), Thank you Lyn.
Our politicians seem fond of copying US legislation and methods, unfortunately I suspect they wont copy this one Having seen huge reductions in the help available to the homeless over the last 10 years, many folk in this situation locally have given up on contacting local authorities, which means the official figures now show a huge reduction in the number of homeless people in the area.0 -
I've just had an idea, always a bit risky if you're me, but this one might help us all in the long run. I suspect we all, as individuals, have that little bit of extra thriftiness to use on particularly difficult days when there is very little in the kitty and very little in the larder. Could we all search our collective experience and maybe share the things to make a difference to comfort and feeling well in difficult times? I'll kick it off with a very simple idea for hungry days when there is very little available and that's to make KETTLE BROTH
Kettle Broth
Boiling water
Salt
Pepper
Dripping if you have any
Crusts torn into small pieces
Put the dripping if you're using it, just a teaspoon and if you have the meat jelly underneath it use that too and the torn bread into a deep bowl/small basin pour over the boiling water and season it to your liking and give it a stir. Eat with a spoon.
This is a very old fashioned way of giving a hungry tum the illusion of a warm meal and is best served for supper just before bedtime. I've read of it in old books particularly during the 1930s/wartime period. Anyone with other ideas? could be useful to have in reserve for the future, Lyn xxx.0 -
Laughing at your description of where you live thriftwizard As you know I have forced myself on you good people so couldn't possibly comment but I have met an gent on my rounds who was a (insert privileged group of people who wink and hand shake) so can quantify your comment quite considerably
still, the people where you live are strong willed, determined and wise folk and I for one feel all the better for being amongst them.
Enjoyed the historical talk, thank you. I've a whole new historical playground to explore now. We wandered upon a settlement just up the road from us at the weekend and it brought home how over populated we are now. Atop of the defences was not a very large area if it was to protect a community.
The new laws? Bet it has something to do with guarding off fracking demonstrations. By shushing the demonstrators us minions cannot learn of such awful things that may happen so we will be quiet and let the money making begin without a peep. Possible thinking at a basic level. Idiots.0 -

This kind of goes hand in hand with not wasting things, stuff like using the bits of veg that most people would throw away. So carrot tops, caulflower leaves, brocolli stems etc. I save apple peel and cores in the freezer for jelly making as they have plenty of pectin in and if you have enough I believe you can make either pure apple jelly or apple butter from peeling and cores.

A couple of points:
Coppers do arrest innocent people.
Innocent until proven guilty?
So they could still be nice people, possibly in need of help/support.
Explain this if you will

This article was linked to on PP today.

HSBC reckon they prevent anyone withdrawing more than £1000 to protect their customers and prevent financial crime.
They then go on to say you can transfer whatever you want by cheque or bank transfer. Hello?...
Isn't it more likely to be because they actually have £1000 deducted from their central bank account when they hand out £1000 in notes, but cheque or direct transfers are likely to go to other HSBC accounts or be averaged out over the next few days by other transactions going in to HSBC?0 -

How have they got the power to deny people their own money? It is not their place to police us :mad::mad:
I drew out £1600 from the Halifax with no problems. They say as long as the money is in your account you can withdraw whatever sum you want.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

As discussed previously it isn't your own money, is it? You're redeeming the unsecured loan you have made to the bank, best hope their credit is good....:eek:0
