Hello All
Whoopee according to Mrs LW I am rich as I will be riding horses if/when oil runs out. I also have my own cart so will be a two transport household!
As for nearby historic buildings I live on the edge of new town Cwmbran so the only historic building near to me is the one I live in! LOL
I have deeds back to 1560 although when renovating we found the medieval frame around which the stone house was built. Unfortunatly we also found three graves by the inglenook fireplace; in "olden" times they buried babies and young children in homesteads as they were not often baptised. We left the bodies in situ and put concrete and insulation over the top. I didnt want to disturb them and certainly did not want archeologists and the like digging them up! We kept "stum" and left them in peace.
Prepping wise this week I have added a few tins to the stash, dried pasta and bought a fire extinguisher for the car. We have also piped some of the springs that rise behind the house. The original water supply for the house we have left running by the back door. There are several that rise behind the house and run down our track and drive. We have piped it to stop a constant rivier but also its a sneaky way of having a secure water supply should anything happen.
Anyway I'm due to go to my sewing class, learning very very slowly as I have little time to practice. At least I can sew in a straight line and not straight through my thumb! Once I have mastered this skill I think bee keeping is the next skill to learn.
Stay safe and keep prepping , Elaine x

Public transport costs are almost a joke. For me to get the coach to Gatwick it is £7 to go double the distance to Heathrow it is £37. I think they just make up a number half the time. For a trip to the midlands it was almost cheaper to fly there than catch the train, and a coach was not much better. The cheapest option would have been to hire a small car for the few days.
Personally I do not need a car, so as long as there are goods deliveries I can get by with a bicycle or walking 99% of the time. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

Ahh, sad about the babies Elaine.
Regarding those springs, would it be worth putting in the plumbing to use them for lavatory flushing?
That would make savings on your water bill now, and any time there was a water shortage or outage, you would be sorted.0 -
Evening all
Elaine - Nice job on the pipework, although sad tales from your house's history. We'd be needing to hitch a lift, although I think we're much too far away in a post-SHTF world.I doubt I'll be riding a bike, as the flesh may be willing but the sense of balance is shot; I'd be spending all my time dealing with road rash.

We're amidst a very minor SHTF event. OH has done something to his foot and has been pretty much unable to walk for the past six days. I certainly can't get him down all of the steps to get him out of the house to the doc. [Un]Fortunately, he's done it before, so at least we know it will mend in a few days. So we've been living off our stash, and I've been replacing the gym with our own personal stairmaster to make sure he is fed, watered and amused.I have been doing my stern finger-wagging wifely bit to get him to the doctor at some point, but it isn't yet viable. I'm very glad that we have the Armageddon cupboard, which even contains sufficient TP to last a while, normally our Achilles Heel of supplies.

I was thinking earlier, about things that need inventing.
Particularly, things that those of us who are [STRIKE]old and knackered[/STRIKE] more mature, might find useful.
For a start, someone definitely needs to invent a needle threader, threader.0 -
I was originally a Lancashire lass but have defected to the dark side - AKA Yorkshire;). I do love it here but fear I will always be regarded as an interloper.
GQ you wouldn't like it. It's spectacularly hilly! My street in on a hill and the top part must be a 1in 5 at least - I walk up it daily with crazy doggy - Good for exercising the glutes
JayneC don't see is as going to the dark side, but towards to light. As Gods own county you've come to the best place. We have everything to become the independent state of Yorkshire (we wish)
We have it all. Hills and vales to suit all. Ooops need to keep quiet or will become overcrowded

I'm into healthy eating. I'm even eating GREEN things with my supper. I don't really approve of green food but hey-ho, it's supposed to be good for ya, so here's giving it a go.
You should really stop picking your nose I'm sure there are more tastier green things you could try.'Ear all, see all, say nowt;

Bob that would be the answer to my prayers a needle threader needle threader - am as blind as a bat now! My sewing machine had a built in threader and it wasnt working, neither was the light  but I took it apart and finally replaced the bulb when I found one, cleaned it all out and lo and behold the threader started working again :j
Hollyberry your are in a pickle arent you? Hope he recovers enough to get to the docs soon.
Public transport drives me crazy here. I cannot walk to the market now nor pull back a bag on wheels full of shopping and it costs me £2.60 in fares. To go into town is £4 now I think, I rarely go anymore. I tend to go to Stockport in the car as its free to park ( blue badge) so probably works out cheaperClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -

Yes do love it here and yes Yorkshire folk have a very strong sense of identity,it is indeed like being in another countryKnew there was something I liked about Yorkshire
Me too nuatha;)Gosh, I dunno, you'd think there was some kind of historical emnity there, something of a floral nature, I believe someone said? The War of the Herbaceous Borders (I may have got the wrong end of the floribunda on that, tho
).
This just brought to mind Monty Python and the Holy Grail 'Bring me a shrubbery', :rotfl:Official DFW nerd - 282 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'
