Someone a while back (talking months here
) was very helpful with tips on keeping exotic pets safe & warm in times of power loss. Unfortunately, it was around the time the ruddy poota/tintaweb had a hissy fit & now I'm trying to remember the stuff I had kept, so I can keep it again, so to speak
Was it you Ginny, who has a son with snakes? I don't know why I should think it's you in particular, but I do!
Yes it was me - its Sil that has various snakes and lizards. I got him organised with hot water bottles for each viv and some sheets of polystyrene to put round the outside of them too. He actually got on board the idea as the animals were all bought very cheaply (as people dont know a damn thing about them when they buy them )so are effectively an investment as well as a hobby. He has wached my prepping for a few years now and seems to be slowly joinong in.
I have just realised I havent been on here much since New year and had lots of catching up to do. The flu floored me for the last 3 weeks but have kept my prepping up as this is the time of year we are most in need.Clearing the junk to travel light

They're available on the rainforest website, but rather more cheaply on the .com version than the .co.uk version.
How do you fill them, when the mains water has failed/is contaminated :huh:0 -
I think we may have had a touch of snow overnight.
I got up in the early hours, and had a look out of my front window.
All the car windscreens had a light coating of, what looked like, wet snow/slush on them.
It's gone now.

(unless you have more than one tub).

I did wonder about that, too.
I suppose if you happened to be at home, and have one of these, and have some notice of something which might disrupt/ contaminate the supply, you might have time to fill one before the water went off/ went bad, but that's quite a few "ifs" and I do prefer to have smaller water carriers pre-filled and rotated.
That way, if I wake up to/ returned home to a no-water situation, it's not a problem.
It is worth mentioning that although you can store water (not fit for drinking) in an open bath-tub, most plugs won't hold it indefinately and you may well find that the water seeps away. Might be better to use the tub as a place to store other receptacles of water, in case one of them sprang a leak.
Hokay, weather's sunny and dry which is as good as it gets in January, so I'm off to the lottie. Love and peas, GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

My thoughts exactly GQ.
It's too late to fill a water container, AFTER the water has gone off.
You couldn't even fill it at a standpipe.
I don't think the inventors have thought it through.0 -

It says that the water will keep for up to 4 weeks then you have to buy a new one

Hi all,
Welcome green lady ,
glad all is okay in your neck of the woods craigy, and pleased your feeling better ginny.
I wonder if any of you wonderful people know of any decent clothes pegs?. My garden looks like a clothes pegs grave yard:D, I have just found titanium ones on line but they are pricey at around 3 quid a peg :eek:but if they work it would be better than chasing round for the washing. It's amazing what can occupy my thoughts at times, just shows how exciting my life can be :rotfl:,
WLL. XMoving towards a life that is more relaxed and kinder to the environment (embracing my inner hippy:D) .:j0
