Our area's flood map has gone from orange to red!
Thanks so much for the link to the weather forum (forgot who posted it now *blushes* Mardatha perhaps?). It makes interesting reading and much more local than the 'local'news that has such a wide area to cover. Not far from us, for instance some folks are being prepared for evacuation! I am really concerned for the local residents by the river.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

Glad to hear you're well-prepared, dragonette, and more power to your elbow. Was the skylight broken by the weather or was it vandalism?
Starting to cut up rough in my part of the world.
Wind is flinging stuff around and the bin men are having a heck of a time with the emptied bins. They're trying to stash them somewhere they won't take off once they've emptied them but there isn't always somewhere possible.
craigyw, hope your damaged roof stays dry until your landlord can get it fixed. We've got workmen coming off roofing and guttering jobs as the wind is too darned strong to be up there. And the rain is stopping external painting, among other things.
Anyone 'seen' Mar today? Can see WLL is about, any news of WCS? Really hope her son who's at the fishing isn't at work today.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks GQ
The skylight appears to have just been the strength of the wind, possibly some debris involved (4 storey high roof though!).
Its certainly too strong a wind for working outside, I'm in construction and we're mostly on office work today thankfully.
Sympathies to craigvw, and hopefully the eastern scotland contingent are simply busy, I know there are power outages across scotland atm which may be preventing internet access. Some of my colleagues are working100 miles away with no power and limited mobile signal....I'm meant to be joining them next week *gulps*:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Echoing good thoughts to those affected by the weather and the forecast surge tonight. I have family in some of the areas under severe alerts and I'm hoping they and all of you similarly located stay safe. Look after yourselves, eh?
It's certainly blowing here. We have an old draughty house, and I've tucked up the curtains at the back and cellar doors to stop it blowing the dining room door open persistently. Nothing to complain about though.0 -
Thanks, dragonette.
Gonna be a bad time for construction with anything under scaffold being vulnerable.
I've had a brief and rather fraught convo today with an east coast local authority peep; their area is severe flood warnings from end-to-end. They were cancelling something they were scheduled to do with us as they're all in emergency planning meetings up there.
We understood; gotta concentrate on what's crucial, anything else is gravy, inc the conference. I know their part of the world and have been thru a flood in it a generation ago, so wished them well for the storm surge tonight.
Bliddy glad I live inland tonight..............my small river isn't on flood alerts but I'm keeping an eye. Am about to make a batch of bread. Needed to be done anyway but won't leave it til tomorrow now in case the gas goes down. Long shot, and I have a canister gas stove, but would like the peace of mind of having the bread situation covered.
May also review my flood drill, just in case Provincial River decides to get frisky. If things happen out at sea, we could have impacts inland if the water couldn't flow down temporarily.
I used to know a water engineer who told me what would happen here if X. Y or Z happened at the coast. Not good outcomes for us inlanders, either.
Keep wrapped up snug, people.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi Guys,
That's us got power back about an hour ago - went off rather spectacularly after a fantastic flash of lightening at 6am. Our blue bin had blown over and I went out this morning to pick up the paper - I got blown right over!! luckily I was on the grass. Left the rest of it, but have tied the bins down - a fence had blown over and taken the bin with it.
The boat is safe in the canal basin thanks - youngest home safe today. The wind has eased a bit but snow is falling heavily. The Rest was closed from early - a lorry blown over blocking the road and the wind preventing recovery. Also a tree blocking the other road out of here, so effectively we're stuck just now, which is fine.
Its a lot worse 30 miles up the coast where I shop - the road has totally vanished into the sea!
Hopefully everyone is safe - fingers crossed the power stays on

Fence is all but down and the felt has finally given up on the shed and blown off  I knew it needed doing but hoped it would hang on until spring........ I must stop living in hope
Chooks have been locked up for their own safety and are not amused. I am planning on moving them to the lottie in the spring so I will have to review how the structure will hold up to high winds.
I hope everyone stays safe

 OMG, WCS, glad you and yours are safe indoors, sounds like your coast in getting hammered. Glad the fishing boat tied up safe.
Good to have our 'strays' checking in, we need Mar and MG and a few other MSE friends to touch base but they may have their leccy off.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

£World are selling Golden Wonder Cup-A-Soup, at 3 boxes (ie. 12 sachets) for £1.
ETA: In anticipation of possible shortage in the shops, I've added a box of 6x1L cartons, of semi-skimmed milk to my stores.0
