• DD1 just rang in high spirits, she had a man from the woodstove centre come to look at her existing fireplace this morning to see if it would be suitable for installing a woodstove and IT IS!!! she's in a little victorian semi which is not too warm at the moment and a woodstove will transform comfort levels for her and Pushkin Cat, she's expecting the estimate tomorrow, he was very nice and only jumped a bit when he was pounced on by the cat who had been hiding in the christmas tree!!! Defensive of his home is Pushycat!!! Lyn xxx.

DH has gone off to hospital appointment and warned to drive extra carefully. DD has gone off for a blood test of INR levels and should be home soon before setting off for York to see support worker.

I am waiting for parcel to be delivered for dd and nervously watching neighbours very high tree shimmying in the wind.

If it falls in our direction then our house should be out of its way but garage and DH pride and joy shed , garage and summerhouse look likely to cop it.

I am  on your behalf. Not ill wishing any one , but wonder if her philosophy will be any comfort to her if or when life happens to her as it does to us all (illness, family problems, work etc). One day her smug and judgemental bubble will burst.

Only three of us for dinner tonight so might use the salmon en croute in freezer (Allidees) with green beans. Made six little pies last night using ready made pastry and the extra chicken, cheese and brocolli sauce left from Jamie's canneloni recipe the day before.

Is it only me that finds I seem to make more interesting stuff when there is not much left in the fridge and I experiment to use up veg etc?

Grey Queen

My pension age went up to about 61 and a half and I did not get a bus pass till then whereas DH got a bus pass at 60 and never uses it. We reversed the usual trend by "upsizing" as DH retired as we have four DDs , three still at home and wanted somewhere with a garden so DH could enjoy pottering , growing veg etc.
Best thing we have ever done as it has done him so much good and have seldom seen him so happy.

Fuddle

Should I ever need help I would much sooner see you than the "so called experienced " person. She would make me want to lock the door and hide ;)

Hugs to all

• ........... and the predictions for it getting worse, now might be a good time to make a last check on prepping stores, get out the candles/lamps, and check battery devices (torches, lamps, radios etc.) to make sure they have usable batteries fitted, not forgetting to top up the charge on any rechargeable devices, eg. laptops, lanterns, searchlights.
• salmon en croute eh?

You are the Cat, and I claim my £5. :D
• Weather wet, cold and very windy here on North Sea coast. I love living at the seaside but am always very glad that our riverside home is on top of a 60 foot cliff.
This is a large block of flats and once bad weather arrives we have at least one power outage a week - candles, matches, battery powered lamps etc stocked as matter of course.

I was hoping to get out to collect a Daily Explain for the Aldi voucher as did not manage to get a Mi@@or last week but the weather has cancelled that plan - find it hard enough to stay on my feet in no wind never mind gales.

So I suppose I had better do some housework:mad:

• Hi all, I'm mostly a lurker here. Stay in Glasgow and this morning has been less than pleasant. Got woken up for work by the skylight in the close smashing.....factors on the case now according to the letting agent.

In my handbag in addition to normal work items are a flask of hot water, emergency rations and a very bright LED torch. Thanks to reading this thread, I knew exactly where all these things were, and I also have a stove and easily accessible candles if the power is off when I get home - the lights were flickering mightily as I left.

So thank you all :D

Bedsit Bob

At £3.99 for a large salmon wellington I could not make it at that price (unless I got really lucky with yellow stickers).

Making home made cauli cheese to go with tonight and DH is very impressed ;)

Going to wrap up warm later and go for 20 minute walk to local supermarket for more milk and sliced bread for freezer. I usually make my own but slices end up like doorsteps and won't fit in the toaster.

Emergency chocolate might just fall into basket as well ;)

Just got our first Christmas card so will have to get around to writing ours. Sadly the list gets shorter every year.

AOT

Is there not a neighbour going out anyway that might pick up the paper for you?
