Not looking for hidden messages, I don't suspect the government of doing things in secret, just that they make sure some things are shouted about and others only found by those who read the parliamentary info. That is why so many are now getting a shock learning about the BT and CT cuts.
We on here get to here of things early on but most of the populace doesn't come here.
I prepare against my husband losing his job, might only be 20 hrs but with my ESA and of course I could lose that, it keeps us just below the level to claim HB and CB which we don't claim as council make it so hard and we would lose it anyway next year as would not get that much and better we learn to do without now.
How many have read all the info on UC that is to come in, I have but lots haven't like my sister up till a few weeks ago and she works for CAB . They were told not to worry about it and to tell their clients the same as it was not coming in till next year so Autumn this year was soon enough. She was shocked when she read about it as it might have made her help clients differently if she had known about the changes.
So if I am a loon I am proud of it and will continue to prepare for whatever comes and if nothing does my children will inherit a good all round store cupboardNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Even though I am new to this forum and have never met you I consider you to be friends...so here are two news updates you will probably not hear for some time on the tv or in the press.......thanks to my friends in the underground sites who keep me informed. These are reliable sources and the news is just hitting the media here.
In Portugal the military have told the Prime minister he should resign immediately and emigrate. They feel he has led the people and the country to the edge of the abyss with his austerity measures and since they are military and have sworn an oath to protect the people and the country they feel it is their duty to put an end to it.
I honestly don't think Greece will be far behind doing the same but I don't think it will be just the military that do it.
Secondly, the US embassy has contacted all their citizens living in Greece and told them that US military aircraft will land at designated air bases for short periods of time and evacuate US military , political personel and citizens should rioting or civil unrest break out in Greece as they will be unable to guarantee their safety otherwise.
It looks like things are happening fast but at least being informed I have a few extra hours to take action if the SHTF here suddenly.
Have made our plans to take the car full of essentials to the first ferry out of here if we have to. It will be much better for us than flying out and taking nothing with us. We have driven through Europe before so it holds no fears for us. I asked the consulate if they had contingency plans for Brits here and they would not tell me about them........ Preparing for the worst and hoping for the best folksxxxx
Meanwhile I am watching NCIS as the news is coming on my computer not the tv.....and having a rare glass of excellent local red wine which is making my cares disappear with the first glass.....
Thanks so much for your posts, 2tonsils - I seem to remember someone on one of the threads saying that the 18th September was the day the - um - ECB and other "bodies" were going to have a look at Gr****'s finances and decide if they had taken sufficient steps towards austerity to deserve further help (), but have not heard a word about it in any news today ....
You sound very calm, resourceful and well organised, and I hope whatever happens you and your husband stay safe. As others have said, please keep posting, or we will worry about you!
GQ, I so agree about travelling in practical shoes. The things some people wear!! And I found myself looking at a woman with long nails and "nail art" on them the other day and thinking: you couldn't do anything useful with those (gardening, cooking, sewing) - what on earth is the point of them?
Oh, and another thing: as an animal lover, I also worry about the plight of animals as the SHTF. All the rescue centres here are full to bursting, dread to think about the beloved pets in Greece, Portugal, etc.
Hey ho, love to all, stay safe and sleep well. xxx0 -

Good luck PAH, hope you won't be disappointed, the stock does seem to change from one week to the next though some items stay the same and it can also depend on whether its a larger branch, till it opens I am unsure how big our town's store is. One in another town was impressive and then I went into another and that was better than that one...
But so far I have not been disappointed with anything I purchased there. Then again I have only been in Aldi's three times so far myself."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Many thanks Dippy thats just the sort of thing I was after
Will let you know what I decide to make.
Trying to decide wether Rosies pack should be made from a heavy drill cotton I have or a ripstop type fabric..decisions..
I've also got 2 gilets which were DS3's with all the pockets on in army camo which I may be able to repurpose for something useful now they don't fit him..any suggestions??
He went through a phase where the only clothes he would wear had to be camo, even his pants and socks0 -

He went through a phase where the only clothes he would wear had to be camo, even his pants and socksI use one of those gilets for travelling and gardening, situations where I don't want a bag hanging off my shoulder but need to hold a variety of small things close. Would they fit you or another household member? Although I admit mine is plain colour not camo.
Re fabric, ripstop nylon would be lighter and dry more easily but is there a risk it would make the dog sweaty and overheated? Cotton drill would be more comfy but if it got wet, it would take ages to dry and could make the pooch uncomfortable. There's pros and cons whichever way you look at it..........Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I have two jerkin/anorack type coats and though I like them I find they cause me to get warm and sweat which is a pity...especially if I wear the rucksack...
I nearly purchased a fleece gilet either in navy blue or black at Aldi and then changed my mind. Wish I'd bought one now...but it was approx £10 and I was thinking about the money but it probably was a good buy...
What's that saying about hesitating? I should have just gone for it!"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
