I have two jerkin/anorack type coats and though I like them I find they cause me to get warm and sweat which is a pity...especially if I wear the rucksack...

I nearly purchased a fleece gilet either in navy blue or black at Aldi and then changed my mind. Wish I'd bought one now...but it was approx £10 and I was thinking about the money but it probably was a good buy...

What's that saying about hesitating? I should have just gone for it!
:) Keep your eyes peeled at the c.s. as these do turn up. I got one in plain black, very snug fitting, which is tidy enough to be worn to work over a blouse and just enough extra warmth for our office in winter, whereas a sweater would be a bit too much.

the cake, I know women who have shoe-drobes which are 100% impractical; ballet pumps, high heels, high-heeled boots for winter, flip-flops and thong sandals. They don't own one single thing which you could reasonably walk 3 miles on a level road in, never mind heading across country tracks.

There are posters in the podiatry dept of the hospital showing X-rays of your feet in these and detailing the injuries they cause. I know a woman who ended up on crutches for weeks because she fell off her platform wedges, and another who twisted an ankle falling off a kerb in wedgie trainers. And as for the amount of people hospitalised due to flip-flops, it's beyond ridiculous.

Talon fingernails have always given me the creeps for some reason................:rotfl:

  • I'll keep watching...

I'm afraid shoe wise I am now a person who tends to wear trainers(and should I reach pensionable age I will continue to...but I do have a couple of pairs of "Proper" shoes for best, if I think I am going somewhere perhaps they look more appropriate but they should last me years without repair or wearing out.

The trainers that I buy last ages and only cost approx £12-£15. To be honest I have a spare pair of them, a pair I use for best and an old pair that is nearly worn out but good enough for going to the shops...They are comfortable and easy to put on(velcro straps)and my shoes are slip ons...

In January I have a theatre show booked of Vienese music and that is one concert I will probably wear a jacket, shirt, tie and my shoes:puusally I just turn up in a lightweight jerkin, a leisure shirt(without a tie)and trainers...

  • Hi all my fellow loonies:D
Well i am the very over excited owner of a paracord bracelet, seriously considered wearing it to work but didn't think it would go with my suit as i had an important meeting to attend:rotfl:, so its in my bag.
Mar i will have a route around my seeds and bag some winter salad ones up for you if you fancy having a try before you buy any seeds, just in-case they remind you too much of k*le.
    hugs to all

Moving swiftly on :D tomorrow I'm going to be sorting out the harvest from the garden including about 3lb I reckon of green tomatoes..I've never made anything with green ones before but fancy something different so any suggestions for the storecupboard please?
I plan to do some beetroot brownies and dry the last courgettes.
Thursday OH is going back to work *praise the lord* so I plan on sewing so will add pics as I go if I manage Rosies backpack.

If you take the green tomatoes and put them somewhere sunny they will ripen.

If you want to slow down the ripening, out them somewhere dark.

Most wikll be fine for salad and the later ripeners will be OK grilled or fried.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

I feel it's a bit harsh labelling me as a loony just for reading the Daily Telegraph:rotfl:

Just a sample of the articles in mainstream news suggesting there is a not insignificant risk that the Middle East could get a little hairy. And the US is targeting jobs and not worrying about inflation for now. Knowing what happened in the 1970s I would suggest you would have to be loony to think we could never again have inflation or power cuts (actually we had both)

Thanks RAS I've only ever had one or two before but my last few outdoor plants are starting to show signs of blight now so I thought I'd harvest them now rather than lose them.
I've been really fortunate and only had to throw two or three tomatoes in total its been a heartbreaking year for a lot of growers :(

GQ I know I'm a skinny c*w but sadly even I couldn't fit in 5 yr old clothes :rotfl:lol I should have said one gilet is 4-5 years and the other is 7-8 I've been playing around with ideas for them today though so watch this space ;)

Sports Direct do an excellent range of Karrimor trail shoes and lightweight hiking boots at a really good price. We all wear the lighter trail shoes for everyday, there's even a black leather version that's plain enough for school. Well worth a look with winter coming up...they have mens, womens and childrens sizes.

I have to wear shoes that either lace up or buckle because I have orthopedic insoles to help stabilise my back and balance so I tend to switch between these and trainers in the summer. Dress shoes? Hah...I do have a pair of low heeled black leather pumps for smart, but I'd need to take my walking stick to manage in them, either that or fall flat on my face. Very elegant.

  • Actually the title of this thread is Preparedness for when the !!!! hits the fan...and since I live in Greece I can truthfully say that we are already knee deep in it....Old style preparedness is the only thing I can do as I don't have the money left to do it any other way.The only loonies here are the politicians at the moment...does that sound familiar?

Quick update on the situation in Portugal (should anyone live there, or know someone who does) the military have given them a deadline of 21 st September (my birthday, which seems to have fallen on a shtf crisis day lol). It is also reported the Portugese president is planning to stand down the current government..but we shall see...

    the cake
to answer your comments...yes, they did give 18th September to deliver the verdict but they have now moved it to mid October before they make the announcement so that is what happened..it was delayed till later. Not much anyone can do except wait as the coalition do not all agree and they are now being asked to vote yes or no for everything in one vote. We won't know the new measures until they are enforced.

Re the strays, there are still organisations here trying desperately to keep up with the abandoned animals but with more and more people desperate here its likely that numbers will go up. There are two cat rescues, two dog rescues and a donkey rescue in Corfu alone but the donkey rescue is in dire straits with money again. I do worry what will happen to the animals if the SHTF...as cats here are already turning to hunting as they don't get as much food given as people just do not have the money to do it.

Got myself a lightweight waterproof jacket for wearing on the scooter today as we keep getting heavy showers and its too warm to wear a thicker jacket. I took on board what you were saying about shoes and not being able to wear them to walk long distances or run from danger. I have decided that when I go out dressed up I will be taking my trainers in the car with me for such emergencies.

My old kickboxing tutor used to tell the ladies never to wear shoes that they couldn't dance, stand, kick and run in....good advice! My sister classes her shoes by how many hours she can wear them comfortably for....hence her four hour shoes LOL

I enquired after the silk thermal leggings in the ex catalogue shop today...and they are saving any pairs they get in for me. Since you pay for them by weight (29 euros a kg in weight) they are going to be really cheap!

Off to catch up on all my conspiracy and lunatic updates on the email.....unfortunately so many of them are coming true daily that I am starting to get worried about the Greys arriving and the zombies of course!

2tonsils, I remember all the chiefs of staff were replaced in one fell swoop by the last government. Is the view where you are that this was to pre-empt action by them?

2tonsils going on from what you said about Portugal, I found this link
    http://algarvedailynews.com/news/7544-armed-forces-call-for-prime-ministers-resignation

That sounds more like a trade union protest than an impending coup - though not saying it couldn't happen. But haven't the police union in Greece uttered similar pronouncements but then things carry on? I think things like that can often limp on for a lot longer than people think
