Mar it might be worth adding a post on the meet thread for a seed swap maybe while you're there? I'm taking some to our meet as I struck lucky finding a 10p bucket in Wyevales.

Ras I've grown that mustard for the first time this year its looking really good so far, rather larger than I expected though glad to hear its hot as I have no tastebuds :o I got a few new varieties this year from Moreveg to try and they've had a really good germination rate.

OK, so in London I'm unlikely to have a tsunami, earthquake or volcano erupt but it does have winter weather and storm sections.

  • Even though I am new to this forum and have never met you I consider you to be friends...so here are two news updates you will probably not hear for some time on the tv or in the press.......thanks to my friends in the underground sites who keep me informed. These are reliable sources and the news is just hitting the media here.

In Portugal the military have told the Prime minister he should resign immediately and emigrate. They feel he has led the people and the country to the edge of the abyss with his austerity measures and since they are military and have sworn an oath to protect the people and the country they feel it is their duty to put an end to it.

I honestly don't think Greece will be far behind doing the same but I don't think it will be just the military that do it.

Secondly, the US embassy has contacted all their citizens living in Greece and told them that US military aircraft will land at designated air bases for short periods of time and evacuate US military , political personel and citizens should rioting or civil unrest break out in Greece as they will be unable to guarantee their safety otherwise.

It looks like things are happening fast but at least being informed I have a few extra hours to take action if the SHTF here suddenly.

Have made our plans to take the car full of essentials to the first ferry out of here if we have to. It will be much better for us than flying out and taking nothing with us. We have driven through Europe before so it holds no fears for us. I asked the consulate if they had contingency plans for Brits here and they would not tell me about them........ Preparing for the worst and hoping for the best folksxxxx

Meanwhile I am watching NCIS as the news is coming on my computer not the tv.....and having a rare glass of excellent local red wine which is making my cares disappear with the first glass.....

2tonsils - I'm mainly a lurker but I have read your posts with great interest. I truly hope you keep yourself and your family safe. It is so good to hear what is happening without the "whitewash" that appears to be our news channels.

Best wishes for your continued well-being and safety.

  • I am just glad I can get to know things in plenty of time to put plan A/B/or C into action. Just had a look at the Greek ferry timetables just in case...you need a bl***dy masters degree to understand them...and that was the page in English LOL.... we have ferries to Italy from here and have the choice of Brindisi, Bari or Venice. Venice is further away so saves driving so far...unless you get lost in Venice like we did last time. I did say that if I never see Venice again it will be too soon....the ferries were called off for a holy day, not even a loo or cup of tea to be found....and it dropped to minus 12 in the car park. We put all our clothes on and ran the engine ten mins at a time to warm us up....we also demolished a tin of quality street, my mum's home made mince pies and half a bottle of rum to keep warm....the Greek lorry drivers kept knocking on the window to see if hypothermia had set in......on second thoughts if we have to leave we will go via Bari or Brindisi.......LOL

see my sense of humour will see me through and I had a tough enough childhood in Yorkshire to enable me to survive anything. Since I don't expect it to happen immediately I plan to go to the gym tomorrow morning....but I will be setting up a grab bag with all the essential papers in it by the afternoon...... I will keep in touch.....you lot are keeping me sane and sensible...although I am not one to panic anytime soon....

:eek:2tonsils, time to stay calm and prep like heck then. This is all a bit to close to home for me, maybe if and when it happens people over here who doubt our prepping may see what we are getting at. Its not happening in the 3rd world its happening in a favourite British holiday destination thats not too far away.

As for your fellow Brits over there they are obviously ostriches of the first degree and are about to have a big shock. We are all thinking of you and hoping all goes well with your excellent planning.

Of to find some seeds to plant after I have checked out the planning page mentioned earlier.

:( Good grief, 2tonsils. What a worry. You take care of yourself and ignore those numpties who disparged you on the website. You can end up like Cassandra of Troy at times; people just don't want to hear it but that doesn't mean it won't be happening. You can only do your best.:(

I was looking up the exact whereabouts of your island the other week as I realised I didn't know where it was in relation to the mainland (I'm only familar with Cr*t* which I've visited several times and love to pieces). Can see your various ferry options. It's not daft to think these things out ahead of time. If it all goes t*ts up, the faster your exit, the smoother things will be. Keep alert but keep safe.

Just don't drop completely out of sight for too long on we'll be worrying about you, hey?

I have been making little preps today (OK, I bought 7 cans of peas). The harvest was a disaster.

Years ago, it was looking like I'd have to evacuate my own life, due to events with another person and completely beyond my control. It was a scarey time but I coped by sitting quietly and drawing up lists of what could be rescued and taken to a relative's and what was too big and too heavy and would have to be jettisoned. It is amazing how you can compartmentalise your life and realise that a lot of stuff just ain't that important.

Yes, I would have lost out financially if I'd had to flee, but nothing I owned, then or now, was worth sacrificing my safety over.
