  • well, instead of posting about my prep I will first have a rant... I have been running a local neighbourhood alert group on facebook since the crime risk/fire risk here rocketed earlier this year with loads of break ins and people setting fire deliberately to the forests.

I had been listening to ever increasing scary (true) reports that things are going to start breaking down socially here and I know the health care and pensions is already broken down...so I decided to encourage all the Brits on the island to register with the consulate as they keep a register to contact you in an emergency....like when the SHTF. I put the link on the site so they could just click and register if they wanted to do so.

what happened was that I got absolutely ripped to pieces by two members on that site for ''scare mongering''. They were really rude and told me I had been reading too many Daily Mail editions ( if only I could afford a British newspaper here...they are really expensive). They were really awful to me on the site that I started to help people..... So I have now left the group to their own devices and wished them good luck when the SHTF....which looks to be only weeks away to me. At least I am prepared for the worst even if they aren't willing to face the truth. I am stocked up with food, water and fuel. If it gets really bad ie civil war..then we are going to fill the car with papers and essentials and get the first ferry out and drive back to the UK. I feel better having a few working plans, even if they are never brought into actions.

Well there was a big feature on the radio about Greece and I have a good idea what's coming and it's not good especially as the General Strike looms ever closer. We have talk of something similar happening here but it will depend if the Government can play it as just a union thing or the public supports the action too and possibly joins in.

The Government have just about alienated every section of society and when the next election happens if the SHTF and has been felt, there will be another party in charge but the trouble is the alternative isn't really an alternative, just more of the same...

And how many times have I seen genuine people start or run some kind of help group to be then the one's who get attacked and have to leave the group they ran...so I can understand your reaction.

The way I look at prepping is that if I end up not needing any of it then that's great, I'll be happy. But if I need it I'll be grateful. It's a bit like having a smoke alarm or decent insurance or airbags....and no-one thinks you're weird for having these, no?

Incidentally a thought about smoke alarms...my main one is wired into the mains, as recommended. But what happens during a power outage I asked myself? So I've bought a battery one as well.

Dunno about yours, but mine are all wired in, and they have a 9v battery backup installed, so if the power goes off (such as when it was switched off for a light fitting to be changed), you get an intermittent beeping noise - and you get the fright of your life when sanding woodwork and the particles set them off.

Speaking of decrepit bodies :rotfl:I'm back! Finished the garden planting near enough now.All prepped for the winter and have barricaded it against roving moggies/foxes/squirrels/birds so hopefully it'll grow well.
Found a couple of smashing parsnips ready and have cleared the beetroot that were big enough.
My burstitus in my elbows is sooo bad tho as are my knees and my back! I'm running out of wheat bags for all my aching body parts :o it'll go off later a bit I hope and I've got a baking day planned for tomorrow so at least I'll be indoors out of the wind.

:(2tonsils sadly some people have nothing better to do with their time than belittle others. I often really wonder if people who are like that online are as thoughtless in real life too :( Words can be extremely hurtful and I wish people would sometimes think before being quite so harsh to others at times its so sad.. chin up hun XX

Cornsalad aka mache aka lamb's lettuce, tiny but taste like .... lettuce
Mizuna - stir fries or salads for new leaves
Giant Red Mustard - defo stirfry or salads for the very new leaves - can be a bit firey.

They and landcress all survived minus 11- minus 19 for two months.

    So worth a whirl.
