Just thought I would leave this link for a very useful addition to emergency first aid that I forgot about.0

Thanks grandma, have read about that a few times and keep forgetting to get some in, its now on shopping list.
If phone boxes are to stay on as I have been assured they must then it would be worth taking the number and asking family, friends to find out number of one nearest them and have prearranged times set up to call them via the phone boxes to check if all ok, as well as find out if they have any news.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Well , a quick update while I still have both electric and internet at the same time... we have just had two SHTF scenarious here within 24 hours! Last night at about five some lunatic lit four fires near a mountain village in the forest deliberately in the high winds! They should be strung up for it.....the fire spread very quickly and it was only 3km from where we live. We all kept in touch on the internet to keep each other updated. Seven fire trucks and four fire planes were fighting it. Then the dusk came and the fire planes cannot fly after dusk and the fire was spreading really bad. We could see the smoke but the rule is not to leave the village until you are told to do so or warned by the church bells.
Just as it was looking really bad we had the most tremendous thunderstorm and they have continued all night. The fire is well and truly out now but I think there will be flooding in places as the rain has been continuous since about six last night. We have no tv signal on most stations, only one I could get was CNN for five minutes..just in time to see a weather warning for Albania, Italy and Greece that we are going to get hit by major storms and possibly tornadoes!!!!!
Unfortunately they also said that England and Scotland are going to get hit by the remnants of a hurricane! So turns your thoughts to the prep before it gets any nearer. Better safe than sorry. Have to go, the water is streaming down the walls outside and its starting to thunder again. I have to unplug everything as the electrics here are not earthed, they are on trip switches and it doesn't work in time to save electrical gear!!!!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Hi all
In Mar's situation I would already be on my way to work with DH if it was a week day, so would turn straight back as DS would likely be at home. We have an old Landrover (only way to get through snow in our country roads sometimes) so travelling should be ok in bad weather. Assuming we get home, we have back up cooking equipment and wind up radio, torches. Cooker itself works on LPG and electric but not knowing what was happening would leave me cautious about how long we may be without power, so i would be inclined to try and balance usage with keeping ourselves warm and fed.
We definately don't have enough wood at the moment, but it is on the list of things to gather over the next month or so.
I would hope my parents would get themselves over to ours as they know we are pretty well prepared , same with DD and her kids (me thinks i may need some more supplies:rotfl:).
The stress of not knowing what was going on would certainly be an issue to consider too.
I must confess, i succumbed to a green stripey paracord bracelet:D just waiting on it being delivered. I probably didn't need it but i wanted one (didn't quite have a toddler tantrum but more a middle aged pout:rotfl:).
Hugs WLL x
P.s. I still have dehydrator envy, i think i may need to count out the pickings from my pennies jar.Moving towards a life that is more relaxed and kinder to the environment (embracing my inner hippy:D) .:j0 -
WLL my little cheapo tchibo dehydrator has served us well all these years so don't worry about getting an all singing and dancing one
I'm only upgrading mine now after about 6 years as I use it so much and my freezers are getting to the point of ridiculousness
Will look at Mar's scenario and post later need to get cracking getting too comfy sat here!!
Have a great day all XX0 -
went out to buy final bits of fresh food before the storms come back and got a lovely LCD wind up and solar powered torch from Lidls. Its going in my handbag so I have always got it with me and know where it is. It was only 8.99 euros so well pleased with that. Meanwhile have all our candles ready for when the storms come back and the house is fully stocked. Have a great day folks.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. For first aid I would go for the liquid but I would also check the reviews because they can have things you had not known or thought of in them. If you want it for a specific purpose you need to research.0 -
Thanks D&DD ive been eyeing up a couple that arent too expensive so that i can build up my stores and use up some stuff from the garden ( or as my DS says play:D)
2Tonsils take care of yourself, it was pretty windy here last night but seems to have calmed down a lot, here's hoping it doesn't hit you too badly

I have the Lakela*nd de-hydrator, about 50 quid and its pretty good, wish it was square not round but thats my only gripe. Just loaded it with 4 huge peppers and 4 big onions and its happily blowong away on the work surface. Very little smell, suprisingly, except peppers tend to be a little aromatic.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0
