i will be honest some was a bit shocking its a case of would you kill someone if they were trying to kill you

I can see why that comment if it was on the show would shock you, but I guess they were asking realistic questions, that it sometimes is a good thing to ponder. Could you, would you? type questions are questions I think we all know the answer to deep down inside our soul. In my opinion, facing death in the face, either kill or be killed, most would do the sensible thing (suppose here you could say, depends on what you view as sensible :p) I wish I could watch that show if only for a laugh as I suspect it goes way over the top as the American's do with things like prepping. I suspect that they have arsenals that would shock the average Brit etc. But I do think it was a fair question and I know what my answer would be.

Or if they were trying to kill your kids? I think most of us would be able to walk that path very quickly tbh. The survival instinct is very strong even in our so called civilised society.

The breakdown of civilization, should it happen, will be quick.

As the riots last summer, panic acts like a contagion.

Anyone who has read 'Lord of the Flies' can see how easy it can be for it to happen.

and yes I would kill someone if my life or my family were threatened. :o

I've spent a really interesting day in the front garden getting it planted up for the winter.I've interplanted the pansies and shrubs with spinach beets, chards and *whispers sorry Mar* Kales :D I've repotted the gooseberries and strawberries out there and tied in the late beans and sorted out the herb bed.Its not gated but so far we've had no trouble with stuff out there.

The reason I say it was interesting is because whenever I garden out there I'm always stopped by numerous neighbours for a chat and every one today without fail mentioned either the economy, foodprices, housing worries, benefits changes, riots etc etc...:(

This was approximately a dozen people of all ages and both sexes, parents, pensioners, a real mix of whom most are working too.

In the past 2 days I've had 2 people ask to borrow money,1 to borrow a tin of beans, one wanted an onion and another needed english mustard! (I actually live oppposite a little corner shop too)

I can only see things getting tougher next year once a lot of changes start to filter down through the benefit system as well and on that profound and cheery note I've gotta sign off as my elbows are killing me :rotfl:

Have never posted on this thread before, but it just goes to show that we never know whats around the corner, the poor people of Japan are being hammered by Super Typhoon Sanba as it continues northwards threatening the Ryukyu Islan this weekend. Sustained winds are currently 170mph with gusts of 205mph
    It's approx 700-800km in diameter !!

Nature is one thing that none of us has any control over, and her might is so strong.

Reading this thread has made me more aware of what could go wrong and to start sorting things out incase it does go wrong

Many thanks for all your tips and thoughts

:( I think I would be capable of killing someone, if defense of my own life or that of my loved ones. I don't have my own children but I hope I'd have the courage to put my aging carcase between someone else's child and a murderer, if push came to shove.

Deeply and sincerely hope never to be tested to the limits in such a way and spend the balance of my life in guilt and torment.

DD&D, very interesting how things are turning out. We've had our on-the job training to take the enquiries from the public who are being written out to, if they are to be affected by the bedroom tax come 1st April 2013. Think all councils are writing out about now. Going to be a lot of worry and distress when that percolates into the general public awareness.

I think that come this time next year, when a lot of people have had time to get into difficulty as a result of "reforms" (and I use inverted commas deliberately as a reform is supposed to make something better) the S will truly HTF. Late summer and early autumn will be a flashpoint. I'm concerned about what people will be going through, but I'm also concerned about me and my colleagues as frontline staff in an HB-administering local authority. A lot of the rage and pain which should be directed onto the perpetrators at Westminster is going to land on the heads of the little people like us. Bracing for trouble..........

I live in a ward which rates very highly on national indices of deprivation and a lot of the people around me are only just getting by at the best of times. Friend and neighbour SuperGran, who is our block's go-to person and agony aunt, describes the Towers as swimming in alcohol. She doesn't condemn as she's lived a full and compassionate life, and remarks that for a lot of people, there is much loneliness and depression and the booze can seem a comforter in trouble. Then it takes over and then the rent money is in the pub or off-license tills, and it goes from bad to worse............

Well, on the preparedness front, I have been cultivating my gardem as Voltaire's quote has it. I have self-sown chard over about a third of my potato patch but am not really sure how to eat it.

:p Well, you know what I mean. Cooked, and if so, how and with what accompaniment? All advice gratefully recieved.

Oh, and I purchased a mini sewing kit in 99p Store today. Will be stripping out most of the contents and replacing with decent thread and a pair of mini-snips instead of the rubbish but wanted it for the compact little zip-up wallet.

I will try something I've thought of a whiley ago; using the barrel off a Bic pen to be the spool for mini sewing reels. They fit over the spindles on sewing machines and I should be able to wind the spool on the bobbin winder. I shall use a serrated kitchen devil knife to cut the pen into little sections as I go and voila! mini spools. You can also use a longer section as needle holder if you seal off one end (gob of gluegun glue) and then have a bit of blu-tac in the other end as a stopper.
