Today we have fresh raspberries from the lottie (amazing things raspberries!!!) and butternut squash by the dozen and as you say the sun is shining, I have made sausage shepherds pie for lunch which we will have with homegrown cabbage and carrots, followed by home grown apples in a pie with some only slightly out of date evaporated milk!!! My secondhand home is clean and tidy, my mended and very out of date washing is done and up in the utility room drying ( we're forecast showers) and He Who Knows is going to sort out the last batch of home grown home made cider to go to the shed for maturation. I am the luckiest and richest woman in this world, I lack nothing and am entirely content with what I have and who I am, it seems such a crying shame that so many folks never reach this point in thier lives doesn't it? Cheers Lyn xxx.

Have just done one of my monitoring checks on the state of H7N9 bird flu and as of yesterday there is a new case a man in his 30s from the same area that the virus first emerged in, He is in hospital and in intensive care so I'll be watching carefully to see if it kicks off again with more people being infected. Forewarned is as they say forearmed!!! Lyn xxx.

:) You're a woman with her head screwed on, Lyn.

I'm going to have a quick flit up to the banque to make sure they don't have too much of my money, then a bite of lunch and off to the lottie. Sunny dry days are too precious to waste and I'm on leave this week, so must try to get the benefit even though I'm tired.

Later, I shall mend some things, bake a batch of delicious bread rolls from the windmiller's flour (been milling on that site, wind and water, since Domesday), cook a pasta-thang with discounted veggies, read some of my library book, and later curl up to sleep in a warm comfortable bed. No one is trying to kill me and I will be out playing with my friends tomorrow afternoon.

Life is very good indeed and I count my blessings.

Indeed. We shouldn't forget that in spite of our concerns, we drew a relatively good hand being born in this country and at a (so far) stable period. There are people in terrible circumstances handing over life savings and risking their lives just to get here :(

I'm trying to get my head around politics but seem to make one discovery that puts me 2 steps behind again.

Is it wrong to kind of respect that the government today is trying to cut our deficit and trying to make plans for our futures? I know it's flawed and we're struggling at grass roots level but at least there's a determination to not only face up to our debts but a commitment to fix them.

Don't put of till tomorrow what needs to be fixed today.

OK, I've had to think about this one; here's my initial thoughts.

In theory, it's a good idea; I can see that they've had their lightbulb moment about underlying debt and the resulting interest payments. However, the way the debt is being repaid - if it actually is being repaid - is somewhat suspect and the measures to "reduce" the debt appear to have a disproportionate effect on some people living in the UK i.e. those least able to afford it. At the moment, I believe it's a sleight of hand card trick with Peter's bank account being emptied to pay Paul. They're taking it out of the envelope destined for house insurance or car tax to pay the rent.

In view of recent experiences I would say be careful who you give your house keys to. It's quite common hereabouts to swap housekeys with neighbours for emergencies. But people and circumstances change and you don't necessarily know the person like you think you do. Things are all amicable now following my recent neighbour spat, but I had returned her keys immediately at her request and she still can't find mine. Now I am sure it is all perfectly genuine but since finding out that she is going through a flaky period and recently put a nail under the tyre of someone who upset her - it was leaving me with a little niggle everytime I went out. Even if I were to get them back I would wonder about copies. Anyway - she is still looking and I am much obliged. Oops it seems I didn't mention that I've changed the locks. :rotfl:
  • Just picked a couple of these up in Aldi (We got the black one) They have a magnet on the back and a hook so that you can hang them up work on 3 AAA batteries so I bought a couple of packs of 4 duracell batteries for £1.99 whilst I was in thereW4213_TH_Thursday_7.jpg

  • I'm not a political animal in any sense and I think no politician is these days there to 'serve' thier constituents or thier country entirely selflessly. I do however understand that this country and most of the other countries on the planet are in a place of very high risk and that fairly drastic measures need to be taken, no matter how unacceptable to the nations concerned, to try to sort out the messes we all now find ourselves in. Regardless of who is to blame, regardless of which party was in the ascendant when mistakes were made and no matter how many people disagreed with what was done, we are in the mire NOW and no amount of ragging the past over will change that and all we can really do is to assist whoever is in government to try to pull us all through these turbulent times!!! It is not possible for everything they do to meet with universal approval but some days it feels as though for most people it's not possible for anything any of them do to meet with even tepid approval from even a very small minority of the nation. It's not something you can leave either. I don't have any answers to the worlds problems I just think those trying to do something deserve a little support for at least trying!!! No? Lyn xxx
