GQ have you been poking your nose in :rotfl::rotfl:
:p I utterly refute that suggestion.

Or I would refute it if I was sure what that suggestion was - let's just refute it on general principles...........:rotfl:

Flying visit as parentals have just rung to say they're leaving the hometown now so have set the timer for their ETA and have had a manic tidy. Hmmm, I suppose getting dressed ought to be in the picture, too?

ETA; Mar, would that be a sheepskin to add under the bottom sheet or a sheepskin used as a top cover? And is one sheepskin big enough for a bed? I'm perennially nosy.

Any advice how to clean guttering? dh hates hights and can't even hold a ladder! I was quoted £100!!!:eek: when I called someone had to stop myself asking was it going to be done by Brad Pitt in the nude:p

    keep safe

Not sure where you are in the country, but my OH is self employed and does gardening/odd job work like this. He would charge £10 per hour and says its simply a case of getting up there and scraping out the carp with a trowel and bucket-don't let em chuck it on the floor as it makes a mess. He reckons most houses you are looking at maybe 2-3 hours at most so £20-£30. Don't let them fob you off with "jet washing" it all out, it goes everywhere, doesn't get it all out and often damages the joints in the guttering.

    £100 sounds crazy tbh.

US STILL acting like a bunch of kids, they seem to have no idea of the WORLD effects they could cause by their pathetic petty politics. TBH many "main" news sites are now saying the US is about to lose its credit rating and that even if a last minute deal is knocked out today that it will be really tight to get things through both houses and in place in time to avoid some defaults tomorrow.

If they don't pull there fingers out, what happens at the end of the month when almost 1 million public workers have no cash to live on and social security payments fail to appear in people's bank accounts, plus if the food stamps crash out as well? That's a hell of a lot of peeded of people mostly armed with guns. How out of touch are the politicians?

Just watching Al Jazerra about the US. Poor old man in Washington who says his pension barely covers his rent, and bills and without his daughter feeding him he would starve. He sat and cried at the thought his pension might not get paid at the end of the month.

They said the next social security "bill" of 12 billion is due on the 23rd. I assume if that doesn't go through or goes through late then the payments for the end of the month will fail or at best be late?

  • Thank you Alibobsy for your advice, might go for odd-job man rather than jet wash will knobs on for £100 that I haven't got.

feel for people in US as people do struggle more than here due to less support and medical care. people in uk don't know how lucky they are.
  • The trouble is the vindictive B's in government are determined to destroy our social security and the result will be that we will have a worse safety net here than in the U.S

No probs, if you were near here in Lancs OH could have done it for you lol. He ended up fixing a leaking guttering that had been "jetwashed" not so long ago. Damage to seals, dirt sprayed all over windows/window ledges and the floor and still clumps of soil/leaves/grass left behind. Most handymen or similar will be charging around £10 an hour I reckon, unless you are in London or an expensive area.

Once cleared you can get stuff that looks like big round toilet brush stuff that sits inside stopping things building up if you like, but obviously that's more cash outlay.

Brought it home to me how lucky we are with the NHS when I had to use the ambulance and hospital services this week, not to mention GP as well.

Hi :D We went to see the film "How I Live Now" and I thought of you lot. It's about an American teenager; she comes to the UK to stay with aunt and cousins and things go pearshaped...

Let me know what you think of the SHTF aspects of it.

Mrs LW: I believe some of the parties involved wouldn't have had it any other way:(
