Supermarket prices eh?
I was in Waitrose this morning buying the things I can't get at Iceland.
They presently have a '3 for 2' on cleaning products. Great?
Not so great. 500ml of Cif Cream costs £2.50, but at least I got three of them for a fiver.0 -
Afternoon preppers
My thoughts and prayers to ChocClare's loved ones, too, be strong and look after each other.
pineapple, I bet the farmer didn't get that amount for the whole animal, which is even more criminal!
My pantry needs a good sort out, stock rotation a bit rubbish ATM, and it seems rather damp in there. Never used to be, but I've thrown away a few things that were rusty (cans) or mouldy (packets of dry goods), and I've not done that in 17 years of being here. TBH whole pantry needs gutting, but today I CBA.
Have had to chuck a few of my spuds that had had blight on the leaves, so being vigilant about the rest. It's either that, so I can store them longer, or have potatoes every night until we've eaten them! :rotfl:

Blimey PINEAPPLY that makes 4 legs £92 and (I know you only get 2 legs and 2 shoulders) I'm fairly sure you could buy a whole carcass for not much more than that? who in thier right mind would pay £23 for a single leg of lamb? not me that's for certain!!! Crazy prices and I'll bet they go UP for the festive period too!!!!! It's a very odd world these days isn't it? Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Had some more sad news today. A lady I knew has passed away suddenly last night at just 66-same age as my mum. She was a lovely lady who was a neighbour when I was growing up and was a carer at the local nursery all my kids went to (youngest still goes).
She loved kids, but sadly was unable to have her own, so she and her husband over the years adopted 3 (including one who was disabled) and fostered over 100. When the LA told them they were too old to foster any more (it was crazy they were both fit and healthy at that point) she started at the nursery and was just wonderful with the children.
She did have cancer (for a second time after fighting off a few years ago), but was having treatment and seemed to be fighting back, although she had finally decided to retire in the summer-in fact the nursery have a retirement fund collected up and were going to buy her something.
Youngest DD (3) is a bit upset as she said xxxxxx was "my best friend mummy". She was sad she wouldn't be at nursery as it was and its the first person she really knew to die.
R.I.P

ALI so sorry for the loss of a wonderful caring person and hope your DD is able to cope with the understanding of losing someone at such a young and impressionable age. She sounds like an amazingly loving and loved lady and has given so many folks the home stability and love they were lacking, bless her, she will be sorely missed I think.
Also sorely missed will be our own ChocClaire, she of the delectable and delicious recipies which were so readily shared and enjoyed, peace to thier families and friends and joy because they were both in the world for us to know and love, Lyn xxx.0 -

We have a half lamb on order from where OH does some work, so its well looked after pampered lamb, which will go to a local slaughterman/butcher to be prepped and we will get a half lamb-dependant on weight for around £36-£40 ish. But I imagine on an industrial scale and hammered by the supermarkets a commercial farmer will get a lot less that that for his.
Just need to work out what to do with all the different bits when they arrive.

ALI that is a much better deal than £23 for just a leg, even a big one and your pampered lamb will be delicious and presumably local to you and very low carbon footprint too, what's not to like? I'm frankly envious!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0

I have a number of recipes of CC saved from posts on here, so sad for her family.
I think little one will be ok, not sure they really understand at that age, but I suppose it a part of life we all have to learn about as a child and face later on.
Middle 2 DD's had a little chat where I overheard them talking about the nice things she did for the at nursery and how she looked after them.
2 less nice people in the world this week.

Just a 2 min drive away and in a lovely field with plenty of room to run around. They keep some themselves and sell the rest to people they know so we are lucky, will be a bargain. Best bargain will be the turkey we are getting from the same place, FR and well looked after, OH has agreed to help with the cleaning and plucking (useful skills to learn) in return for one free bird. Won't be like a commercial bird, all breast and fat, and should be around 15-20lbs, again we won't know the weight till the 23/24 dec when they are prepped.
Need to get the freezers clear over the next couple of months ready for the meat and/or leftovers, plus like to bake and prep some stuff for Christmas ahead of time.
