I had a flu jab done at Asda a few days ago for £7!!
DH is a few years older than me so goes for his first free flu jab at GP tomorrow.
Managed to go to Asda today for eye test and ordered two pairs of variofocals with thinner treated lenses for the cheapest price I have seen for ages. :j
DH 70% of the way through radiotherapy so looking forward to completing treatment and then concentrating on getting him feeling back to himself.
Freezer has lots of home grown veg in it which i want to use up so I have space for emergency bread and milk over the winter."This site is addictive!"

Good luck with flu jab tomorrow Greyqueen (and anyone else having one) had mine today, I'm another one who gets an NHS freebie due to B@$tard cancer robbing me of my spleen (excuse my bad language I find it cathartic when mentioning the vile C word). First year I had it, it was done at the same time as a pnuemonia and meningitis jab and I was so ill I nearly ended up in hospital. Last year just had flu one and was only poorly 24 hours. This year feel fine so far ........... crosses fingers and hopes for the best!
Will measure wick tomorrow Bedsit Bob - am currently in bed with chocolates, books and a gently snoring DH to keep me company :eek:People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

While I have had my children vaccinated, I am rather mistrustful of vaccines in general and especially the flu one as so much money seems to be made out of it. I generally don't trust anything the government says is a good idea. Articles like this rather highlight that

so while I am probably eligible for one due to my job, I am really not hugely tempted at the moment, especially as I already have one autoimmune condition.
Am making prepping/survival themed gift baskets for two couples for christmas (sorry!) this year. Might as well give something useful! So far I have torches, credit card tool thing, foil blankets, mess tins and hex stove (when they finally arrive!), mini first aid kit, fire steel.
One simple, everyday prep I really need to get sorted is a spare key for my car. Last night DH called from work (45 minutes away) saying his car key had snapped in the lock. Luckily there is one at home so I drove out (with all children, at bed time) and dropped it off, if we hadn't had that it would have been a nightmare. We don't have one for my car, even though I snapped one once and lost current one in the sea (got it back, slightly wet but working). So I really need to have a replacement made!
I was very thankful for the emergency cereal bars I have in the glove box, but for some reason there was no water in the car, oops!, as I had brought the car box into the house to sort it out!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

My neighbour's blind dog - being a tad over exuberant - broke my skin with his teeth. My last tenanus jab was over 10 years ago. But both NHS Direct and my GP said the thinking had changed on tetanus jabs and that I would already have had enough jabs for immunity.
As for flu jabs, they are not for me. Not that I subscribe to the conspiracy notion that they are designed to harm us- but I don't have a medical condition that would make me vulnerable and I don't spend much time in large groups. I can't remember my last cold and I have had flu once. I know a couple of people who were quite poorly afterwards so rightly or wrongly I take the view - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's true about it being a nasty illness though. I sometimes see posts from people saying they are stuck at home with the flu. But they wouldn't have the will or the energy to play around on the net if it was the real deal :rotfl:
Maybe in these cases it's been man flu. Waits for response from BB....0 -
I have just packed DS (14) off for his DofE expedition. Our 3 man tent was split into canvas that DS carried and poles (friend carried). Well once we'd got the tent and sleeping bag into his ) 60 litre rucksack, there wasn't much room for anything else. A few clothes, a gas canister section of cooker, a little food and a few drinks (he carried 2 days packed lunch, pudding for tonight (carton custard and some choc chip biscuits - his idea), and a pot of instant porridge for brekkie. His bedding mat is on the outside. That's it.
Now to be fair, they were told it all had to go in rucksack, rather than anything being carried separately, but it sure leaves room for little else. Food wise he has 2 Sandwiches, sausage rolls, raisins, some cereal bars, tangerines and a pack of cheese bisuits so not much - certainly not what he would normally eat (couldn't get the fridge in the rucksack :rotfl:). And we were really restricted regarding drinks - some cartons of juice and bottles of squash. It made me think about what one actually would be able to carry in a real SHTF situation.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hi all, have been for our Flu jabs this morning and they kindly gave me a pheumonia vaccine shot as well, so I now have one in each arm!!! While I was there I asked the doctor about childhood vaccinations and if they needed a top up in later years and he was adamant that the vaccine given in childhood gave lifelong protection, having had the question asked a few pages ago I hope that helps clear it up? Cheers Lyn xxx.0
