Hello all, finally caught up reading well over 10 pages, unfortunately well passed tipsy as Ive been drinking home made wine whilst reading! Aplogies for any spelling mistakes bit difficult when you are SF, missed the H T out! LOL
Well I hae been continuing on my covert prepping, added more candles (5p in asda clearance bin plus cs finds), treated myself to a "new" oil lamp complete with new wick for £10 and added to my dry food/preps store. I have also been picking blackberries, stealing apples from neighbours ( well they will never know and probably wont notice!) and buying YS supplies for my groaning freezers. The dehydrator has been working overtime with all my YS veg buys plus experimenting with fruit leathers as my youngest loves the expensive shop bought ones. Still drying any 8p/12p herb bargains although losing my stash to sister who thinks I'm mad but still liberates them when she gets the chance!
Concentrating on typing when three sheets to the wind is really difficult!. I will have to reinstate my get home bag for winter motoring in my car, they give 3'' rain here tomorrow and I feel a little exposed not having it in the car. I still carry plenty in my handbag and a survival tin in my shopping bag but still feel underprepared.

Reading through the posts suddenly made me realise what could have set the seed for prepardness in me, I read John Wyndham at primary school ( I was always reading) and he remains my favourite author!

    Anyway keep prepping!

    R.I.P ChocClaire

:)PP and Mrs LW, I have the Seeds of Change pouched rice and bits and they can be heated in a pan with addition of only 2 tbsp of water (see instructions on pkt, I'm not winging it). I no longer have a microwave so I always check these things.

Haven't got any of the Tilda but did read the destructions on their pkt in the store and I'm sure it was the same for them. I cobnsidered that the minimal quantity of water required and the option to stir heat on one of my alternative cooking devices would be very do-able. HTH.

I've played and done it with a camp stove and a pan of water, just poked a vent hole in the pouch and bunged it in. Took a lot longer than I thought, but was fine.

I just LOVE playing with stoves.

Sorry, should have made that clearer, put the whole unopened pouch into a pan of water ( just a small hole in the bag to let the steam escaped) Boil in the pouch type effort.

Bloomin' heck I can't even talk tonite and I'm sober, what's up with that?

So sorry about chocclare - but thank you GQ for the recipes - she will live on in people's cooking as well as their memories. I have recipes from people who died a long time ago, but I always think of them when I make the recipe they gave me. I'll try one of these at the weekend.

De-cloaking for a second to mention that in my local large Sainsbugs they are selling Kilner jars, bottles and starter preserving kits for 25% off. Probably still more expensive than elsewhere online but I picked up 8 bottles as I have been looking for ages and actually had the cash for them!

    Hope it helps someone.

ETA: RIP ChocClare. I hope you are at rest.

Doing a supermarket shop today (in a fairly down at heel area), I think I let out a little cry when I saw a leg of lamb for £23. Yes dear readers - £23!
Then I saw the Napolina tinned tomatoes at £1.25 a can. A can!
Before everyone rushes to tell me you can get a tin of tomatoes for around 30p - I know. In fact the same shop had the store brand on offer at that very price. But the point is there are tomatoes being sold at well over a quid a tin. There must be a market for large luxury roasts and pricey branded tomatoes or presumably they wouldn't even be on sale.:(
