:) Ohh, don't be a lurker, pls come out to play.

Wasn't there something very similar threatened in May this year which was averted at the last minute?

I'd manage as have a year's expenses by me and lots of food so I guess the allotment would get much attention if I was on enforced leave.

Think America is stuck in a system now where they stagger from crisis to crisis continually.

    :)Bluebag, I sympatise. I've long-since worked out that AA 'cup'= vest........:rotfl:

Waiting for my painkillers to kick in after a sleepless night. Thanks, neighbours, 'preciate that loads. When I have achieved something loosely approximating normality I shall go to the allotment and hit things with tools.

Green with envy over pistol cross bow. Would love one but have nowhere to play with it, dammit.

Man, it gets worse GQ I had shingles many years ago right where the bra strap goes and I still can't wear a real bra, have to use those soft crop top efforts, combined with short hair I look like a boy! Maybe useful in a crisis.. who knows ?

Cross bows of any description are cool. but like you no where to play, can't even play with a good catapult which is lucky for the skanky pigeons here.

Having a bad day myself pain wise, odd cos it's usually better in the summery weather like what we has got today... cold and rain though Arrrggghhh!

Have a good bean day at the lottie.

Yes, I think they use this government shutdown thing as a threat to get stuff through the government, it's the BIG stick.

I don't think it ever has shut down, so if anyone knows It would be 'interesting' to see what happened.

Sounds like more bellicose threats buy grown men and women chucking toys out of prams.
  • Hello Preppers n prepees

Noticed this about food further down from the US shutdown story which talks about food expiry:

Forgot to mention about 'buddy burners' made with corrugated cardboard, a tuna tin and candle wax. Should find easy instructions on Utube. They are so easy to make, honest cos I did it!

You can re-charge them with a small lump of candle wax by just chucking it on top while it is burning. I use tea lights to re-charge ti with, just take off the metal bits and remove the wick

They HAVE to be used OUTSIDE!!!!! The smoke and fumes off them is bad even outside.

They will if recharged with wax burn indefinately. I have heated a tin of hotdogs on them and that took about 15 mins, so not for in a hurry stuff . Doubt you could boil a kettle on it,would take forever but enough water in a cup for a brew would be easly do able.

I thought that too Hester.. canny beat gentle wee old ladies like us for good ideas eh!
  • Is it strange that I am now wondering if any of my neighbours would notice me searching through their recycle boxes for corrugated paper/cardboard? I like the idea of having some "buddy burners" ready in case my gas supply, my camping stove and my coal fire all let me down at the same time! My family think I am bonkers but as they all live 100 miles away, I know that I could cope by myself for at least a fortnight with my secret supplies!
Keep posting everyone, I LOVE reading all your ideas and stories!
