  • Butane/Propane mixes handle the cold better.

That's because, while butane vaporises at -2c, propane vaporises at -42c.

A full canister of 70/30 mix is good down to about -15c, although the vaporisation temperature raises a bit, as the gas is used up.

There's a book in Cwmbran library - 'How to store your home grown produce' (it's where I work). I think it could be of interest for you.

  • Morning everyone, there is indeed a book called 'How to store your Garden Produce' by Piers Warren, published by Green Books in 2002, ISBN 1 903998 25 5 . A useful little thing with instructions and best method recommendations for fruit and veg and useful recipes for each where applicable. I have him on my bookshelf, worth a read and good sound advice, Hope that helps, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Hi all , hope you are all well. Things are wonderful here in Thailand, we love the life here and my new job is amazing. Have been stocking up on a few essentials , prepping on a small scale. We know the area has flooded badly in the past in the rainy season (which we have just started) so we have supplies of food and water to last a few days and some medical supplies. It is as much as we can manage in a small flat.

I went for my medical for work and they insisted on doing a blood test as Greece has several diseases coming back, including West Nile fever. I am glad to say I was clear (of that and Leprosy and STD's that they tested for LOL) so I now have my full work permit.

I have kept track of Greece while I have been sorting out my new life in Thailand....the bin men have not collected rubbish as they have not insured the trucks this year. The local civil servants are on strike as they do not want to be made redundant. The tax offices have been closed down and they are all now in one small section of a building. It makes you wonder if they actually want the country to fail ....

It is lovely being in a country where people are still polite and smiling. The university are treating me really well and I love it here. I made the right move in coming to Thailand.

It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

S Wales Saver thanks for the heads up on the garden produce book, I will have a look next time I am in. How strange to think we have probably met and not realised it!! I usually go in on a monday morning. At this rate with Love full Shelves we have the makings of a Cwmbran SHTF group!!!
I have bitten the elderflower bullet and made a bucket of champagne and some cordial. I have changed the recipe with more lemon, less sugar and no added wine yeast so hopefully I will not be face down in the toilet like the last batch!! A two day drunk feeling with hangover was enough to put me off for life! I am not sure once ready I will even be able to sniff it let alone drink it, only time will tell! :-)

  • 2tonsils, glad to hear you are surviving and thriving in Thailand. The situation in Greece sounds as though it is getting worse by the day. Another story here about the impact of the economic crisis on healthcare in Greece. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-23247914
The Greeks from my experiences as a tourist (knocking around on Greek buses and staying in domatia rather than staying in tourist hotels on the beach) are some of the most family and community-spirited people in Europe and some of the stories are truly heart-breaking.
