Just checking in quickly as I've been sorting out the garden all day in between washing etc and I'm ker-knackered.
DS2 was a bit choked up when I read him all your lovely comments which made me start too :o

The whole experience was shambolic TBH he's had a right old time but if I go into too much detail on here and say what happened I'm likely to get sued..

I must say though his surgeon was fabulous :D He did say though it was weird only meeting someone for the first time just before he operated on them, poor man didn't have a clue what he was in for!

Our hour and 30mins op turned into a 4 hour 50 minute marathon resulting in 3 attempts through the groin rather than one as he found so many problems.

Turns out DS2's heart is at a 'different orientation' than is usual, and so everything went pear shaped as the holes couldn't be reached and plugged as planned.
He eventually had to re-do his route 3 times and enter and plug from a totally different place as a result. All credit to him though he did it :T he saw us afterwards and said he's never seen anything like it before though in all his years of surgery.

Right now I've totally de-railed the thread again sorry! I'll get back to prepping issues..promise! :D:D

I'm so glad it went well in the end D&DD but what a worry it must have been for you when it took much longer than expected.

Morning all, phew!!!!! hottest night I can remember for a long time and next door's cat decided to have a sparring match outside the window at 4 am, it sounded like two tigers to be honest, but when I looked out it was just the itsy bitsy putty cat making like T Rex to another cat.

D3 perhaps DS2 will become immortalised in all the medical textbooks as a one off different operation? Goodness, he might even get published in the Lancet, is he doing autographs yet??? Hope he is well on the way to recovery and enjoying this glorious weather, as indeed I hope everyone is.

The polytunnel certainly loves the warmth and I'm picking french beans, courgettes, cucumbers and peas daily. We are lifting spuds on the lottie, huge ones too and we have beetroot at various stages of growth and the european lettuce mountain in many locations both in the hothouses and in the gardens. Such a different season to last year, I'm waiting for the heat to subside just a bit and then I'll be into preserving mode with a vengeance. The fruit looks good again this year with many blackberries formed and growing on and what looks like a good crop of apples on the trees, and the wild things are looking very good to for foraging later in the year too. We're all going to be busy, busy, busy!!! Have a lovely day everyone and stay as cool as you are able, Cheers Lyn xxx.

I have just picked 7 cucumbers from the single plant in the poly, will give the two biggest to my brother and I shall be making Bread and Butter Pickles with the rest today, looks like preserving has begun!!!!! Lyn xxx.

Glad to hear that DS has had his operation and is ok. I can't understand why he wasn't given an MRI scan of the heart first? The problems would have been picked up before the operation not during
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

D&DD you knew he was special though didnt you :D sounds as if the surgeon was a star, so sorry other stuff wasnt good.

I have a flower on my cucumber triffid :j:j and a little cucumber growing (obviously :o) I am so chuffed despite 2 hours sleep as DGS is poorly and keep going out and looking at it. Going to make pickled white cabbage in a bit, we love red cabbage but not tried white, dont suppose it will be very different. You can get huge cabbages in the Polish shop in the winter quite cheaply so am looking forward to the end result. It something else to add to the pantry and will give a bit of taste to a meal. Also need to de-hydrate the courgettes for winter after I have had a few on toast. I am really loving the productivity this year and feel my hard work is paying off. Theres a really big strawberry ripening well so am hoping to take it over to DGS tomorrow- he will love it.

Well just tell him he's a biological/medical miracle and whole test books will be written on his case! Good luck to him anyway.
It's too hot for me to sit in the sun. I'll never understand people who sit for hours on end basting :(. Or maybe at a certain age you realise that that it's not a good idea if you wish to preserve your remaining 'youth'. After all one can easily achieve that sunkissed look without doing half as much damage (and without looking like Dale Winton :D).
Even me runner beans are covered. Meanwhile the potato plants are flowering and have joined to form a tunnel which only the dog can get through. What with them and the nasturtiums and a stragically hung bathtowel, I can almost catch the breeze au naturel - without putting the neighbours off their lunch ;).
Talking of neighbours the battle of the frontages continues. My latest salvo was putting Leonardo the wooden duck round the front. And as next door but one really likes kitsch, I have added a patchwork figure on a stick poking out of a newly planted pot and a yellow petal wind spinner thingy. I can tell it is driving her demented. Last seen she was furiously planting up pots to put on the wall opposite her cottage. But hey I have cards yet to play and she has run out of space.
Meanwhile after confiding in a local garden centre, they suggested some glitter coated gnomes as the ultimate annoyance. But even I can't go that far :(
