As some of you may recall, I've been on a quest to find/make a lid for the cooking pots in my BOB.

Wll, I've finally found something, which I have been able to convert into a pot lid.

I got one of these from ASDA.

Having removed the threaded insert (fortunately only a push fit), I drilled two holes in the lid (one central, and one about 2/3rds from the centre) and fitted a B&Q drawer knob to the centre hole.

Here is the finished item on the pot (apologies for the poor picture quality :o ), which is itself, sitting on a home-made Spirit Stove.

It's not quite a perfect fit (the lid is about 3mm larger in diameter than the pot), but that enables the lid to rattle gently, to indicate the water has boiled.

Hello all, just a quick update to say that we arrived safely in Thailand and are settling in. We have a lovely little flat at the university. The university is absolutely fabulous and I can hardly believe the facilities it offers.
Well done - it will be good to get your perspective on Thai life.

Most coke cans aren't suitable, due to the shape of the top.

The only brand I've found that is consistently suitable, is Vimto.

I'm popping out later, so I'll get some cans, and do a photo showing the type of can that is suitable, and the type that isn't.

ETA: The best price I've found, for fuel for those Spirit Stoves, is B&Q, where you can get 2L of Bio-Ethanol for £5.

*wonders if the housing assoc will notice a hole in the floor...*
    I NEED that pantry!!! :D

Well folks the S was inching towards the fan here yesterday,I'm ridiculously busy ATM and of all days I was getting my dehydrator down from on top of the freezer (7 foot high packed with meat one..)and noticed the red light was on..it had died on us

Cue me running round flapping as Tesco's had delivered earlier and every oriface in the kitchen (fridge freezer and chest freezer) was full, and I mean FULL..

I rang our local independent electrical store at 4.45 and by 5.15 no less we had a shiny new frostfree freezer installed!
The deliverymen where on their way home and waited for us to go and choose one and delivered it as they went home.Marvellous people

Fortunately we are insured so hoping they will pay out and we've saved them a small fortune as the bloke on the claims line nearly fainted when I told him what was in there..I've never claimed for anything like this before but they said they'll ring within 24 hours so fingers crossed!

2T glad to see the move went well

Daz garden looks fab! Lovely pic :D

Right off to bake a vat of fish pies with the defrosted smoked haddock :rotfl:

Have a great day all XXX

ETA oops still forgot to say thanks for all the lovely birthday wishes made my day XX

My pantry - she said keying in the letters carefully - has got a lawnmower, a pedal bin and assorted carp in it.
But hey I'm sorting the outside store so I can put the lawnmower where it belongs, then I'll have it fitted with shelving (the pantry not the lawnmower) so that I can move the DIY stuff from the spare room. So then I'll have a spare room that doesn't look like a branch of B&Q - but the surplus stores will remain on the bookshelves and I still won't have a proper pantry. :(

Such as who hid the end off my sellotape?
  • I've always loved the idea of one of these - although not the price - with the trapdoor hidden under a rug.

Hello all, just a quick update to say that we arrived safely in Thailand and are settling in. We have a lovely little flat at the university. The university is absolutely fabulous and I can hardly believe the facilities it offers.

The people are very friendly and polite and always seem to be smiling and happy with their lot in life. I am very glad we left Greece when we did. Reading between the lines it looks like things are starting to come to a head. My thoughts are with all my friends who cannot leave Greece.

Hope you are all well and still prepping.

    Hello 2T

Glad to see you typing again. Thank goodness you are settled in, and in a very nice place by the sounds of it. It's horrible to have to leave friends behind, but, maybe some of them might be inspired to follow your example and get out whilst they can.

Doesn't sound too good for the Greek people, and it really saddens me as we have holidayed there in the past, and always had a lovely Greek welcome.

Good luck! And start your new preps without delay...

Buy tins. You know it makes sense.

2tonsils, glad that you have arrived safely in Thailand and your campus appartment is pleasant. Wishing you and your OH all the best for your fresh start and hope that things don't get too much worse for those poor souls in Greece.

Right, better check some other threads and touch base with the OS homies. Laters, GQ xx

    Hello GQ

I always enjoy your posts, and agree with them, you have a lot of common sense. Some of the things happening elsewhere bring home how situations can get out of control/kilter so quickly.

It's just more incentive to prep harder, and keep everything crossed (except panties), and keep a wary eye on what's happening...
