    If he loses his job by whatever means then he should apply for ESA as he is not fit to work. He will need a fit note from his GP and until 13 weeks will get £71 assessement rate. After that he will be assessed if he can continue on it but hopefully by that stage the problem will have been resolved. As he presumably is already getting a fit note from his GP I wouldn't think that would be a problem.
    £56.25 per week. He is 20 years old.
    How do you come to that conclusion. Should he apply for JSA then he may well be sanctioned.
    But...should he apply for ESA he should get that instead.

    Umm, because he's 20 the illness is unacceptable?! I'll tell my health problems to go away until I'm 50, obviously too young for them now. Problem sorted. :) Also unsure how a 20 year old on min wage is supposed to afford to be able to move out so easily.



    OP, I'm thinking it'd be worth seeing about ESA as suggested. If it's something physical, it's not going to magically disppear and if he has to wait 2 months for the hospital (down here sitting in A&E would get you 2 paracetamol and instructions to rest, maybe a short stay if he's dehydrated but wouldn't speed up his appointment. Plus of course, treatment could be a lot more than "take these twice a day for a week".

    The other possibility is mental - I'm not saying work shy, I'm saying is there a chance this is a severe form of anxiety? Anxiety can and does lead to physical symptoms. If so, not having to think about work I'd expect at least an improvement assuming the anxiety is work related. Hopefully it's not, just worth considering.

    Exactly the same as anyone else of any age on minimum wages survive...by renting a cheap room close to a place of employment.

    Minimum wages are £6.08 @ 37.5 hours a week he'll be taking home £204 every week. If £60 or so was spent on the room he will still have plenty left over. If that then saves £50 a week in travel costs from this remote village he currently lives in then he's quids in.

    Littlerat, yes the dr we saw a week ago mentioned anxiety if nothing shows at the hospital appt then I think he's going to go down that route. My son is quite private he doesn't talk to me about personal issues but I do know that he has a few at the moment.

    Yes he is getting sick notes from the dr and is on ssp. Unless he gets fired from his job I think he will have to stay on ssp.

    I answered the question posed. If a person literally has no means to get to their job they wouldn't be sanctioned for leaving.
