Disabled Student with Child - Benefit entitlement?

Why should a person not be able to study for a degree even if they are not able to work at the end of it?
GO AWAY and let this person who wants to learn and better themselves do so.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
I agree with the above actually, i suffer from anxiety, depression and ocd and i think the route your going down would raise suspicion from dwp. If you can go to uni you can't be that bad. I can't even make it to the ou tutorials once a fortnight. I did work at one point but had to give it up as it got too much.0

This would give him entitlement to I.S but your bursary when you receive it will be taken in pound for pound.
A bursary is treated different to a loan in there is no disregard, its taken in as a weekly figure.
on I.S you would get Couple Rate, CP and Couple DP, minus the CA
Income Based ESA would treat the bursary in the same way.
Hi Mikey, thanks for the info. My bursery is rather small, works out at £154 per week including all components but disregarding grants and loans. I am sure the IS would work out to be more than that weekly.
As there is eligibilty for IS, I am assuming that I will also be entitled to some HB too?Baby Mazza due New Years Day 2013!0 -
Universities offer a lot of help to people who suffer from anxiety and related issues, they operate an INCLUSION policy , you know which prevents discrimination, heard of that have you?Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Also is any of the bursery treated as income eg does the usual £20 a week disregard apply?Baby Mazza due New Years Day 2013!0 -
Also my mental health problem is not panic attacks, I have panic attacks in unfamilar places, which my current employer has overcome by others showing me routes on buses etc. My boyfriend will quite often show me new routes in his car (unless address is confidential of course).
All patient addresses are confidential!
So what happens when you have to visit a patient in crisis? Are you going to ring the hubby to give you a lift, tell the patient they'll have to wait? Put yourself in the position of the patient - would you want someone turning up and having a panic attack?
I don't believe you have been completely honest with the university about how much care you claim to need. Either that or you have not been completely honest with the DWP.
And on that note I am stepping away from this thread. I just cannot believe someone would be so irresponsible.0 -
The best skill a nurse could have is empathy and it cannot be taught.
However, meant in the nicest possible way OP, don't put too much pressure on yourself because your health in the most important thing after all.
Best of luck with the course though

Anxiety and depression is awful, i used to have really bad anxiety. My main diagnosis, however, is bipolar type 2.
And dont let anyone tell you cant work. I got told at the end of 2006 that I would never work again... Work is really good for people with mental health problems. Google Rachel Perkins and read some of her stuff, she is spot on.Baby Mazza due New Years Day 2013!0 -

For health related courses they also have to be confident that the student can fulfil the role, which if the OP is being honest about her condition, she clearly cannot.0 -

There's a £10 per week disregard.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
