Victoria Stillwell has also just posted that the BCC didnt even have the common decency to advise the family of his death, they had to hear it second hand!!
I am so disgusted and want everyone to know how low Belfast City Council have stooped. The Barnes family heard about the death of their beloved dog through me because I had been told by a source at BBC Radio Ulster. After what the council put the family through they didn't even have the decency to inform the family first before everyone else know. Someone involved in this mess needs to lose their job. If this is the way they represent their citizens then Belfast beware. Belfast City Council should hang their heads for the shameful and insensitive way they have handled this. Heartless doesn't even begin to describe the people surrounding this case. Appalling and I can assure you, this will NEVER be forgotten!A home is not a home ..... without a dog0 -

Only just caught up with this.
So very sad, but one of many where innocent dogs are caught up in this stupid legislation where they just have to have the looks and measurements of a 'Type', rather than having done anything.
The BSL is ridiculous, look at the case of poor little Fudge - http://www.examiner.com/article/justice-for-fudge-another-victim-of-bsl she was only 5 months old, hadn't even grown enough to be the measurements required to be classed of 'pit bull type' when police officers knocked on the door of her 61 year old owner and demanded that she sign a paper, which she wasn't allowed to get her glasses to read, which authorised them to take Fudge and destroy her. She got out of her bed, wagging her tail at the officers. She had never done anything dangerous in her short little life to warrant being taken like that and destroyed.
They said in the court papers that Lennox had shown himself to be nasty - well is it surprising? He had been taken from his family, locked in severe conditions and had strangers making him do probably strange things to see how far they could push him before he reacted. What did they expect? Self defence would have kcked in to the poor frightened animal, the dog behaviourist said that he was shaking like a leaf when she tested him, she probably treated him with respect and he showed her a gentle side as he didn't feel threatened by her.
I have to agree with Sazzy though, although it never should have been allowed to happen, he is in a better place now than couped up in those awful kennels, living in sawdust, which can't be good for a dog, and his own faeces. It was such a shame that he spent so long living in those awful conditions. The last two years of his life must have been a living hell, being taken away from his family like that and not even having the comfort of them by his side as he left this world. Its shocking. The BSL must be repelled.
To those who will point out the opinion stated in the court case about him being unpredictable and nasty, I will say that some years ago, I took on a rescue dog who was to be put down as no-one had been able to cope with him, he had shown a nasty side. He had had five homes before me, had been beaten and starved, his nastiness was only because he was frightened, it took a long time to gain his trust but he was a very loving animal, he was brilliant with little children because he wasn't frightened by them.
Poor Lennox must have been terrified locked up in his cell for 24hrs a day living in those conditions. He wouldn't have shown the same behavior there as he would have done in his own home, being handled by the people he loved. There had never been any complaints of his nastiness by anyone in his area or by neighbours. By the age of 5, if he had been as agressive as was said in the court papers, surely it would have been shown by then?
Shame on all those involved with the taking and killing of another innocent victim.
RIP Lennox, at least you are now free from that awful place. It should never have happened, you should have been returned to your family, or at the very least, been released to be taken to a new home where you would have been safe. I'm sure the dog behaviourists involved would have made sure you went somewhere where you would have been loved and cared for for the rest of your life instead of it being cut short like it was.0 -
Here's a video of lennox with the dog warden who was so terrified of him that she didn't want to get close to him

There's also a poster on facebook of her cuddling lennox and of lennox licking her face, she is a poor excuse for a dog warden and should not be allowed to work with animals.0 -
The whole case is wrong from start to finish!!All politics and no substance, and a poor dog in the middle of it all:(
I believe it was politics that influenced it,look at the timing of the dogs death, planned to coencide with the biggest celebration over here, the Twelfth. Now I'm not being sectarian here but think about it...
Lennox was allegedly PTS on the 11th,which is the start of the Twelfth celebrations, and Lennox lived in Disreali Court, off the Crumlin Rd,which is a staunchly protestant enclave that backs onto the upper Shankill Road.
Otherwise why pick that particular date & time to have the dog PTS?...Maybe to use the Twelfth to divert attention?..I dunno but call me a cynic..0 -

I was made aware of that video this morning and its ripped my heart apart.
I have a 9yr old staff x lab, big lad, 30kg, broad etc. At just 8 weeks old he was in the pound on death row and had been beaten and abused by men. As a result of this he is now terrified of men. He has constant training, assessment, behavioural refreshers etc BUT despite all this his fear is still with him, I have been told that other than a brain transplant I will never be able to remove his fear completely. He has also been attacked by other dogs 3 times (labradors & great Dane) and yet never retaliated. BUT due to his fears he can give off the wrong signals and look like a crazy psycho dog. A "family friend" who is a senior member of the local police force also labelled him as a "pitbull"!! I constantly live in fear of instances like Lennox's. Had that been my dog in that video he would not have been so placid/well mannered due to his fear of men.

Totally Agree
The dog wardens whole body language does not indicatate that she is afraid, let alone that she has any concerns around this dog.
She is sitting with a very relaxed posture and does not have a strong grip/controll of the dog , which would indicate that she has no concerns that Lennox will lunge.
Some people just have huge prejudices around these type of dogs.......and just have a agenda from the beginning.0
