I thought you were talking about a canopy similar to that that they have at this particular branch: I wonder how the truck pictured filling up on the forecourt got on?

Wow that would have been a tight fit!

The luton van is only about 10.5 feet high the canopy is probably nearer 13 feet so would fit in easy

If the picture provided by lightwave is of the same drive thru your father hit then my view of it is that he's at fault.

The height sign on the forecourt canopy is displaying the height of the forecourt canopy only.

Is it the right one in the picture with the dent in the corner and down the side?

I'm not as confident as Huckster. There is a bollard that effectively forces the person away from the building. Plus, there is still the fact he drove into a building with an overhang little more than a gutter on a house. The building wasnt moving.

The volvo in the picture is 1.4m high, the transit is just over 2m cab height. So add another half of that volvo on top again. The only way a transit tipper could actually reach that canopy was if the tipper was up. (But it does mean the cab is at least 6" higher than the 6ft mesh, so that needs another check)

Perhaps the overhang had been repaired since the accident.

The picture mauy not accurately show the overhang at the time the van hit it. Perhaps the overhang was already damaged and hanging down at the time the van hit it. I cannot see any other explanation for the accident occuring in the way previously described.

Just a quick note, my dad isn't denying he hit it, he doesn't have a clue how he did, he just knows he didn't mount the curb.

Maybe his truck went in at a slight angle to miss the bollard so he could pay, not sure! I know that I drive in at an angle to miss the bollard and so I am able to get close enough to pay without getting out of my car when I use that petrol station!

He basically wants to to know if he has the right to offer to fix it or at least get a quote to fix it without going through his insurance.

To be honest with out proof we cant say for sure it wasn't already damaged.

One of these, unless he was tipping it while paying its still a bit of a mystery

So the green bit was scrapped, I presume its just within reach of the mesh part and your dad parked in line with the bollard meaning the green part was over the van which he touched at an angle.

They should have extended the kerb outwards all the way if its possible to do this, I still blame them. If I ever drive a truck in one of these places, I'll get out and walk over to pay then drive through without stopping

The answer on the repairs, I dont think he gets to choose if he can make it right himself.

Even at an angle, I'd still be going back in the truck to check the height, even if you scrape it down the wall it doesn't seem like you'd hit it in a 6ft truck.
