Bank Smart Letter

Today I received a letter from Bank Smart Consumer Complaints Division.
Offering to claim 7500 as a refund on my loan from Welcome Bright
the loan 25000 ?
Never heard of them and have never applied for a loan so large in my life !!!
They are obviously dodgy claim handlers preying on the vulnerable !!!
I googled them and it seems they are under the umbrella of several companies Debt Smart , Symmetric Systems Ltd .
Why or why is nothing being done it seems that there are loads of complaints but the MOJ are doing nothing ?

Why don't you let them go ahead with the claim?
Who knows, they might somehow get that £7500 and even if it means you end up paying them the 30% +VAT typical charge, you'll still be over £4500 up :beer:0 -

Here's a similar situation from another thread:today I've received a letter from Bank Smart asking me to sign up with them as I have had a loan with a company called Welcome/Bright and I'm entitled to a PPI refund. Having checked out who Bank Smart are there's no way I'm signing up to anything! What I want to know is who are Welcome/Bright -- I have no knowledge or paperwork referring to a loan I've had with them but I would like to give it a try to re-claim if I can! How can I find out the details of the loan I may have had? Can anyone help?
Thanks!Moneyineptitude wrote: »Well done for not signing up with a Claims Management Company!
Not so well done for believing you've had a loan with a company you've never heard of! How can any CMC know your personal financial history?
It's an obvious scam.0 -
Here's yet another example:I got a letter this morning from Bank Smart. They tell me I had a load with a company called CiciHo for £23000, and a refund amount of £6900.
I don't remember it at all. Although I did have a bridging loan when I bought my house. The Financial Advisor arranged it all. All we done was sign 'something' and had over a cheque for £7000 (i hear ya..)
This transaction was in August 2006, although there is no information about it on my credit file.
Three questions..
1. Are BankSmart just using this as a hook?
2. Where can I find 'historic' lenders on my credit file? Is there one of the credit file companies that go further than the rest?
3. Who are CitiHo? I can find nothing online about them.
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.0 -

So it looks like this Company are sending letters to numerous people.

I'm not from a claims company..
I emailed BankSmart asking to clarify who CitiHo were. I also mentioned that I phoned the Financial Ombudsman today (which I did) and asked for them to confirm if CiciHo was a trading name/sub company of something. They had never heard of them, but suggested it may have something to do with Citi HongKong, or Citi Home Lending.
The BankSmart letter says " We have been asked to write to you regarding the application you made for £23000 which we have been informed is likely to have included Payment Protection Insurance in the region of £6900."
They go on to ask if I could send them any document relating to this loan..
I'll update this post if they email me back.0 -
Drop them like a tonne of bricks all, I got the same bull**** letter, we are doing the claims ourselves, its a shame these vultures prey on the innocent. So easy to see how people can get caught out. But the best thing to do, my mate who's an IT engineer says always search the web for these companies and submit reviews to help weed out the cowboys.0

I got this letter yesterday too saying they are writing to me regarding the £1000 loan from CitiFinancial. I've never had a £1000 loan and I've never had any loans from CitiFinancial.
Where are they getting this information from? Or is it just all a weird scam?
Even if I did have PPI to claim back I would do it myself.0 -
This is the email responce from BankSmart..
"The data we have was provided by a Ministry of Justice registered affiliate and shows prior loan applications made. It is possible that the actual loan provider/broker may be different from what appears on the documents we have sent you.
If you have evidence to support the loan, such as a statement/letter from the lender/broker that can help speed up your refund however if you do not have any evidence providing you know the correct lender/broker name that you took out the loan with (or it is the one we have indicated on the letter to you) that will be sufficient for us to obtain the information on your behalf.
Often lenders will say that you did not have PPI with them but they may have applied PPI though another Company and we will investigate this on your behalf. Even if you are certain you did not have PPI we will still be able to reclaim any penalty charges you may have incurred through the duration of your loan. Please note we charge a 25% plus VAT fee of any settlement made subject to agreed terms.
If you do not wish for us to obtain your refund you need do nothing, we will not contact you again unless you ask us too and will remove your details from our database within 28 days.
If you require any further information or have any questions please email support@bank-smart.co.uk and we will be happy to assist you."0 -
