Fuddle I don't think the LL has a leg to stand on re. the damp. It can't possibly get to the stage where it's making clothes mouldy in a week. Get DH to try to get this sorted using environmental health or otherwise, and then have as little contact with him as possible. You are good tenants and they can be hard to come by, so give him no bother and he may well relent. If he doesn't there is the threat of the small claims court (so keep records and photos). But don't do anything hasty.0

Fuddle can you believe a house has come up for letting over the road(Private)from where I live(it is at least a two bedroom property)and in the local free sheet 2/3/4 bedroom properties too but of course this is not the area you wanted to move to...then again shops are close by(3-4 mins)we have a wilkinsons, Aldi very soon, Tesco's, Herons Freezer shop, numerous charity shops, butcher's, Mackays, Peacocks, Greggs, Poundstretcher, Boyes, Argos etc...schools very close where you may be able to work but your problem would be your job, the school your children attend and possibly more distance from where your husband works...
This a quiet trouble free area no wonder I hope to stay put myself..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Re the mould and mildew, it could well wash out but do it sooner rather than later.
If the Room Cannot be heated and vented to be useable then this is a problem. LL has to be responsible for this.
One thing, have you tried to dehumidify this if you can't vent the room by keeping window open for a period each day? Wild help with mould. You may be able to dehum and not heat that room.Start info Dec11

fuddle - if you get everything washed quickly it may well come out, you can buy bottles of mould and mildew remover for clothes but I have to say I didnt have much success with it when I tried. I lost all my shoes and alot of clothes too in the last house.0

Afternoon toughies,
I've been reading but not posting or thanking last few days (just caught up with thanks) as my laptop still not working and been using DH's tablet (great for reading OS in bed but not for typing) and when I can (like now :j) on his old PC. I ordered a new laptop battery which finally arrived yesterday and it doesn't fit tightly into the battery compartment and falls out when moved hence it's not charging up. I himmed and harred for ages - £75 battery direct from laptop firm or £25 from amazing store - chose the latter in the end. I am going to have a go taping the battery compartment down and if it works have saved myself £50. If not I hope the company isn't dodgy and I can get my money back. I just have an uneasy feeling about it ...hope I'm wrong.
Anyway sorry to type such boring waffle! Just as we thought it was all over.....lurgies that is... for 3/4 weeks, feeling blurgh yet again today. DH said today that he could tell I wasn't right yesterday by my eyes. Feel physically orrible but mentally/emotionally pretty A-ok which is preferrable by a long shot. I can cope with feeling ill but not so good with feeling low.
Managed to blitz the house with essential cleaning yesterday so that has helped and will spend the weekend alternately resting/pottering about. Still have lots of sewing to do - kids new school trousers and PJs all need taking up, already caught up with lots of little mending jobs - so can rest and be busy at the same time
I have an issue for a long time about the state of our house - not just the clutter (which is confined to certain areas of the house but still an issue) - or normal household untidyness (with 2 young lads and an untidy OH) - or dust etc BUT the shabby un-chicness of it, the mouldy bits, the bits that need repairing/replacing, the ancient flooring/kitchen/bathroom etc.
A dear friend was showing off (in a nice way) her newly built summerhouse painted in pastel shades, with a handmade sign and new carpet and cushions etc inside - its lovely and I made her laugh with a comparable description of our [STRIKE]shack[/STRIKE]shed - its main redeeming feature is it has four walls, a roof and a door. Said door is literally hanging on by a couple of screws and I'll spare you the other details. If I can work out how to post a photo on here, you would laugh your heads off!
Back to point of the house - for a long time I would only invite friends who I knew well over and even that was difficult and I have been inviting newer friends over and thinking they can take me/my house as they find me or sling their hook. Of course none of them care about what my house looks like! How silly I've been all this time. I invited a mother of one of DS1's friends over for a coffee when she came to collect him from our house yesterday and because the place was reasonably clean/tidy (for us anyway) I felt relaxed. Sometimes it takes a long time to change things about ourselves doesn't it?
To add to the summerhouse bit - my friend is in a lot of debt (I've tried to help but they haven't had LBM so I will wait in the wings in case I am needed but not interfere) and it comforts me to know that we may have a ramshackle shed (and house for that matter) BUT we now have no debt other than the mortgage AND through being more and more OS (thank you all :T, can't do it on my own!) I am gradually building up a house repairs pot so we can pay for repairs instead of getting loans.
I must start some bread off as promised as DH is making toad for tea (he must think I look ill!:rotfl:)
Apologies for not replying to posts, my brain hasn't retained anything from reading posts but I hope you are all having the best day that you can and as ever I am thinking of you all and sending you my warmest wishes and postive thoughts.

Fuddle - sorry to hear about your clothes. No advice re removing mould but we have some problems and have found a dehumidifier helps lots and would highly recommend one - it also means we don't need the heating on as much/as high.
Glad you had a good night out - good for the spirit. Laughter is the best medicine!

Thank you for all your help. I have to tell you that about 45 minutes ago the LL called to tell us he wants us to leave. We have 2 months to get out... 20th December. Can you believe that? I am so sure that we need it in written form before the 2 months begin but even so, we have to leave. It is a sad smiley face because I'm worried. I'm very worried. At the end of the day I'd rather have a damp house than all the stress that is about to be begin.
With us having the banruptcy, no money in the bank for 6 months deposit (for their security) and nobody to be a guarantor we will struggle to be accepted by an agent. I'm stunned, I'm angry and I'm very teary. Not sure what were going to do and it's too late and I'm too emotional to think through a plan right now.0 -
He needs to give you two months from the rent due date and it needs to be an official section 21 form that has to be filled in correctly. Dont tell him he needs to do this as it will slow things down while you plan your next move.
Monday get hold of Shelter and they can give you all the info and definitely report him - at the very least you may save some other poor soul from his lacklustre landlording.0
