Mardatha - whilst the war years were incredibly hard, people understood that it was hard and didnt have the same expectation as now from people. Expectation is so high now that unless you are three super heroes rolled into one, whilst being Mary flipping Poppins, Kim n Aggie at the same time people seem to see failure.0

I expect too much of myself and that's silly. Maryb can you not leave facecloth on a radiator then they dry fast ? But either way I'd think it hygenic enough if you just soak it in hot water in the sink every time you use it..? The other thing you could do, if you had it, would be to spray your bad hand with colloidal silver from a spray bottle. I have that, but wouldn't ingest it, just for topical use. That stuff kills any germs.0

Mary - is squeezing flannels out is an issue for you try some long tongs, I grew up having real problems with one hand and we used to have a large set of tongs for when I wanted to wring things out at home - silly things like needing a cloth to mop up a spill and I needed it damp not dripping.0

Hi lovely people.
Just a quick one to update you with where we are at with things here. I was going out last night. Got out my black jacket out and found it stinking of mould with white fluff and green patches all over it. Mortified. I wore that black funeral dress I got a little while ago.
Having looked at in detail at much of my stuff I've found about 30% with these patches on. They're in the back bedroom now but I don't know what to do, will it wash off/out? They all smell foisty too.
So, DH rang the LL as no one came to fix the toilet as promised. It soon came round to the concern over the mould. DH thinks it's coming in from an old airbrick (1935 this house was built) Again he got the 'it was like that when I lived there and I didn't have a problem'. DH issued him with the real threat that we would report to environmental health at the council.. LL issued us with 'please yourself but you won't get your deposit back because you've admitted moving out and it's obviously a cold unheated room, you're in breach of your contract' We are. We have to heat that room like any other. Something which is really gaulling i.e. paying rent for and paying for heat for, a room that we just cannot use.
Solution? Trying our best to find somewhere short term to just move to. I'm very teary at the moment and feel like everything is spiralling. I've turned a shell of a house into a warm and inviting home. I've taken care of this place and I'm going to lose £450 of my deposit now over something what is just not my fault.
DH has turned the heat on in the room but now we can't prove that we heat it now. That room has been cut off for one week, that's all. Looks like it was such a bad decision. I've got my proof so I'm just hoping. Maybe with a call to the enviro health there will be more proof that I'm not to blame for the problem?
So a very down and very tired fuddle today (not hungover as I only had 1 glass but laughed so much that my cheeks hurt! good times)

Fuddle - is your deposit in a protection scheme? If not then he hasnt got a leg to stand on - if yes he has to prove you caused damage, that will mean he needs a quote from a builder or such, who will clearly say its a building issue. Dont panic, yes leave it heated, if he says any more say that what your OH meant was that you have moved out due to the damp and not that you had turned heating off.
I really do think calling environmental health and council would be good they can back up what you say. If environmental health declare it unfit then you may be bumped up the housing list too.0 -
FUDDLE - look online for a landlords responsibilities in the case of disrepair to the building that is let. There are strict standards laid down that include hazard to health and that covers damp and mould. Many sites, south tyneside is there, don't know if this is the right area but worth a read, there is also advice about the type of tenency agreement and what envorinmental health can force the landlord to do to get the repairs done. Worth a read through, chin up little one, Cheers Lyn xxx.
There is a really good guide to removing mold and mildew from clothing on E.How, worth a look, seems pretty straightforward, Lyn xxx.0 -
FUDDLE can't offer any advice on damp or LL, but it might be worth posting on the House Buying, Renting and Selling board, as there seems to be some very knowledgeable people posting on there.

Hewo ANTY JENNY - Ize arskd Dadi bout rubarb an he sez - you don't have to do anything by way of taking foliage off, it will rot down naturally but that it needs to be covered with a pile of manure which will give it some food and some protection from the weather. Then just leave it until next spring and the new leaves will grow up through the mulch. Mumi an me hopses vat iz a yewsful fing fer yew - Frum yer frend Docky an hiz Mumi x.0
