When my lovely Goggie boy died in London I couldn't bear to part with him, especially as we were intending to move in the next year or two. I've got his ashes in a box in my cupboard, and he will be joined by any other dogs over time, and when I go they are all coming with me on a final walk over the hills or one of the beaches here :A I still fret over DS's ratties, cos' we did bury them in the garden...I'm probably a weirdo :p

You are not a weirdo at all, when my OH's beloved Snowy died, he couldn't bear to part with him either. His ashes are in a box on his shelf along with his collar and he will go everywhere with him.

Fuddle I received my housing form so going to get that sent off to.good luck!

:j Yeah! We're so going to be bidding on the same houses! Good luck to you too.

Does anyone know how to make HM toffee apples?

Last day of work for me this week. I've earned myself an extra £45 after today. That is a nice feeling.

It seems everyone is scrambling to become self-employed around here. On the walk to school there's now a child's entertainer van, painter and decorator van, and 'van and man' hire service and window cleaning service.

I have been thinking about being a self employed painter and decorator myself but I'm wary about going into strangers homes, it's the reason why I didn't clean in the end.

So good to see so many people just trying but how many of those people must have lost a job :(

  • Popperwell, It is a very personal thing to you and worth a lot of consideration. If you are struggling to make a firm decision you can always take your Mum home for a while, one day you may just wake up and say to yourself, `do you know what, Mum would love her final resting place to be ......`

I agree about kids needing to step out into the big wide world but with the awareness of what is and may not be safe. On the other hand though, we live in a cul de sac off a cul de sac. A quiet street with a large area of grass and a couple of trees. Next door has 5 kids, ranging from 6mth to about 14. When out walking the dogs, often in the dark around 9 o`clock I often see the middle kids and regularly the younger girl on her own as her brothers have left her (she just started school in September so about 4 yo.) They are often not even in the cul de sac but a couple of streets down. We live in a large city, just off a dual carriage way and have several factories nearby.Several times as well the kids are outside and the parents have gone out in the car and just locked them out of the house to play on the street!

When our eldest (and first family cat) died last year I couldnt bear the ideal of burying her somewhere and then leaving her behind as we had with all the others when we left the previous place. So when she was returned back to us in a little box I sat her in OH wardrobe on top of one of his T-shirts, which she would have loved to do when she was alive.
I fully expected OH to move her or insist I scatter her but he has kept her there and is happy to. So she is staying here with us quietly sleeping.

Not had much sleep last night so am exhausted today, but managing to get stuff done still. Even managed to get DD17 bank account sorted today (been on the list for a year!!) and my car tax has finally arrived too. :)

FUDDLE - That's ab fab £45 and you've enjoyed it all, congratulations you're a winner,Cheers Lyn xxx. It might be easier to do chocolate dipped apples with hundreds and thousands on them (when the choc is still warm), making toffee isn't always easy. You can use the cheaper cooking choc and still get a good finish, hope that helps,L x.

 OMG  What IS WRONG with some people.

We had a family on the street in London, just before we left, who let their small kids play out on the street until after dark. I know our road was a dead end, but people still whizzed up and down in cars. Saw their littlest (age about three?) one night, on his trike in the middle of the road, dark coat, dark hair - totally invisible. Of course if he'd been hit by a car she'd have been out wailing 'my baby' Grrrrrrr.

Anyway back to T***o... I got surveyed when I left Mr T. yesterday!!! Apparently our Sainsbugs is due to open in April, and they wanted to know what improvements to the store would ensure my continued custom. Methinks they are a bit worried!!!
I was really looking forward to red label teabags coming to Cardigan, but I've just about weaned myself on to Clipper. Tea is my one luxury these days - sad but true.

Anyone watch the Bakeoff this week? I made some of those Aberffraw biscuits that were pressed into shells last night. I thought they might do well on the cake stall being Welsh and all. They were very tasty, I managed to save a few from DS and OH to see how well they kept, as I'm trying to find a few things to stock that don't need to be made the day before the market. So far I've got Fudge and Bara Brith...suggestions VERY welcome!

Kate what about some christmassy stollen soon? And christmas cupcakes if you pierce them with sugar stock will be OK 2 day before. Found some great christmas cupcakes on pinterest, give me a shout if you'd like me to let you know. Lemon drizzle keeps a few days but I expect you are already doing that. Our bestseller used to be chocolate unbaked which lasts a couple of weeks, like a chocolate refrigerator cake.
  • I've been having a cooking session today to see what I could make from what I had in the fridge. I had

    1 Home grown Hispi Cabbage
half a packet of bacon pieces
    some tired cheddar
some breadcrumbs I made from crusts a couple of days ago
    some home grown cherry tomatoes
    some cooking margarine
half a pound of sausages defrosted last night

and in the store cupboard I have

    plain flour
    dried skimmed milk powder
    sugar
    macaroni
    herbs and spices

I also have home grown onions and cooking apples , some plums donated by a neighbour.

I made a Cabbage and sausage bake , steam cabbage and add chopped apple, onion and dry sage and thyme. Half cabbage in a casserole then the sausage meat(taken out of the skins) and a little chopped bacon then the rest of the cabbage mix. Season the layers, dot with marge, lid on and into a slow oven for a couple of hours.
I made Cabbage in cheese sauce topped with bacon bits, and cheesy breadcrumbs.
I cooked 4 oz of macaroni and made Macaroni cheese with bacon and tomatoes.
I made an apple and a plum crumble.
Thats 6 main meals for 2 and 12 portions of crumble without getting anything else in, now feel very OS, Cheers Lyn xxx.

I seriously considered digging up first mog when we left London,
I hated the idea of leaving her behind. I was really stressed about it, but had to accept that disenterring a cat buried 16 years ago could be seen to be a bit odd to say the least. Luckily the couple who bought the house are animal lovers and were happy to know she was there. I was sad about leaving our ratties behind too. Silly really to be attached to the physical remains, not being religious I'm not sure why it matters, I think perhaps I am part pagan!
