Morning everyone
DH bought himself a trailer yesterday and he is soooooooo happy!!! It makes a change from all the misery he has been going through of late. He had to park it in the street last night as it was late when he got back from fetching it and his little eyes lit up when we walked passed it to take the dogs for a walk this morning :rotfl::rotfl:
Men, bless them
Is it Damson season yet? Iv'e had a craving for damson jam for weeks.

Sunshine, that's lovely and I hope you have a great girly catch up0 -
This thread moves so fast that when I'm busy for a day or two it'd take me hours to catch up - mostly I just read the last couple of pages & hope I haven't missed too much.Although he had a good pension and quite a bit of savings, all his plant labels were made out of cut up washing up liquid bottles.

Really inspiring blog
Is that the girl who the council banned from blogging about her school meals a short while ago. Caused an uproar and an embarrassing u-turn. I hadn't realised it was a charity fundraiser. I will look into it later.
I have a problem of the smelly kind. My wheely bin has been emptied and is in rather a rank smelling state because of all that rotten meat being sat there for a week and a half (we get fortnightly bin emptying). I have called our local bin cleaning company but they don't do one off's you have to sign up for £2.50 every other week. I don't want to commit to an extra £5 per month right now.
So, DH is getting one of the van drivers to call off, load it on to his van, take it to the depot so DH can pressure wash it down... nice jobI'm lucky in that I can do that. What would happen if we didn't have access to a van and a pressure washer?
So, I would like to put a bin liner in the bin when it's cleaned to prevent further smelly episodes. I'm sure I've seen them big enough in people's bins. Can you help with where to get them from? Also, how to they clip onto the bin?
Any help would be fab.
Digging weeds out of my borders this afternoon. Going to bark it as I can't keep the weeds down and is an eye saw. I'd like to put pot plants of edibles there. Also does anyone know how to sand down the rust off an old gate? That is also an eye saw. What paint would I get to paint it black again?
Bother to being house proud in a house you don't know whether you're going to stay in :cool:0 -
(((((((Hugs)))))) to all this morning.
Ginnyknit I hope all goes well and you are back home soon.
Gq I have had a thought. I have a catapult somewhere in the loft and thought it may be a good idea to collect a bunch of the slimey critters to fire out the loft windows at the teens (13-15 year olds) who rampage the streets here at 12.30am up to anywhere around 5.30 am. Maybe you could do the same? Need a tongue in cheek smiley here.
I am not normally a vindictive person but I am sick to death of the kids here and their totally irresponsible parents. None seem to care what the kids are up to. Mine did not even know 3.30am or even 5.30am existed at that age. Getting them out of bed at 8am was hard enough.0 -
I used to buy wheelie bin liners from the supermarket fuddle, they are fairly pricey though. I bought them for the church bins as we had other groups using them and they werent as careful as we were.0

Morning Toughies, have just washed all the floors downstairs and am trapped in the study until they dry.
GQ I remember reading somewhere that carrots like sandy loose soil so if you are going to try barrels it might help to mix in a proportion of sand for your carrotlings! Sorry you had such a disturbed night, is it any consolation to know we were both unable to sleep as it was so hot and muggy last night? yuk!
FUDDLE - Hope you are feeling much better today, what a result with the lovely neighbours and also the LL agreeing to replace your guttering, will make such a difference to the dampness, someone very good must be watching over you these days, which is only what you've earned! Hope today at work is as good as yesterday and you enjoy it.
GINNY Hope all goes well for your OH today, thinking of you both.
EMALOU - It's such early days for you yet but there will come a time when you'll think of Dad and the things you did and said and smile, it takes a while but you'll get there. I still miss my Pa and being able to phone him to say 'You'll never guess what I've just done' and have him say'Go on try me, it is you after all' but now that makes me smile and not sad. Chin up little one we're here if you need us.
Have a good day everyone, Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Fuddle, I got big sacks from Sainsbugs but they are a pain. My bin got into that state but I found that just filling it with about a foot of water, leaving it to soak and then swishing it with an old soft broom got it clean.
Re rust on an iron gate use a wire brush. If you really want to do a good job then a wire brush attachment for a drill will get into all the nooks and crannies. Then use Hammerite - you can get it in a tin or a spray. It actually covers rust so you don't have to use a primer. It comes in various colours but black is easy to get hold of.
hope this helpsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
The pleasures of a day off. I have been to one army surplus store and will shortly be biking to the other one. If anyone has a need for zip-loc style strong poly bags, inc quite large sizes, these are the places to go.
I have also purchased some Medicinal Chocolate to make up for the 2-3 hours sleep I've been robbed of.For two pins I'd go around and bang on her bedroom window, bet she's asleep now.
Fuddle, the recommended way to rub rust off wrought iron is to use a wire brush. You'd need one of the smaller ones, preferably cylindrical, to reach into the curlicules. And the correct way to repaint it is with two people working in the same area at the same time, one on each side, that way you don't miss a bit. Something like the smooth version of Hammerite paint. Cheap wire brushes are a false economy as they go very wrong very quickly inc the wires falling out.
This info comes from an uncle who was a pro painter for most of his life btw, so I have to assume it's Correct Form.
Alternatively, if funds would stretch, you could take them off the hinges and to a sandblasting place.
Well ,this ain't getting the baby a bonnet. A weekday to myself is a precious commodity and I mustn't waste it.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hello and a warm welcome emalou. So sorry to hear about your dad. You have come to the right place for support, advice and/or a giggle whichever applies at the time.
Ginny thinking of you and your DH today. Let us know how it went later.
Hugs to anyone else who needs them. You can't have too many can you?
I'm still feeling a grotbag and a bit guilty that I'm wimped out of my usual stint helping in the school nursery but its constant noise/action and my head just isn't up to it - probably best not to spread my germs about anyhoo. Poor DHhas been vomitting lots with awful headache and wondering if its a migraine rather than a bug, he is so poorly and I feel for him. On a mercenary MSE note - wished he hadn't bought a weekly travelcard last week, would have saved us £26 already - gosh that sounds awful :rotfl:
Whole school is doing a dance workshop today and they have to dress in different colours for different countries each year class represents. DS1 easy as USA but DS2 is Spain (red/yellow) and closest I could get was his big brother's Man U PJs, red top with yellow Man U print and red bottoms. No way was I buying yellow trousers :eek:for a couple of hours wear. He is ecstatic to wear PJs/ his brother's PJs/ something with Man U on and he loves dancing :j. DS1 hates dancing so not so happy and poor lamb has a cold to boot.
Made a little list of simple essential chores and will do these in between time on here with hot drinks. Have a free careers workshop I really want to attend tomorrow so hoping to feel better for that. Maybe I will get some ideas for my dream job... interesting, not too busy/quiet, fantastic employer and perks, wonderful colleagues, near home, hours to fit around school, opportunities to progress but only if you want and an amazing salary.... ha ha well you've gotta have a dream...
