We've all got some kind of bug Fuddle, has lasted weeks now, and it has made my cough which I've had for about a year bad again which is getting me down. (Have had x ray etc, its nothing terrible.) But regardless I need to start doing stuff around the house again, it looks awful. I have picked some stuff up today and that's about all I can manage. Tomorrow though, is another day!

Sorry to hear you're feeling so lethargic Possession but you can't help it so don't beat yourself up about it me dear. Just make sure you are doing the essentials without rushing and concentrate on eating properly and getting better.

If you feel guilty "wasting time" try and find sitting down jobs to do - make lists of things to do when you're feeling better, meal plans, shopping lists, catch up with emails/letters/phone calls, even write Xmas cards?, sort paperwork, look for insurance deals, order stuff online, sort photos, clean up PC files/mobile messages etc

fuddle hope your headache went - might have psoted since but despite just reading recent posts have forgotten half already, honestly I'm terrible for doing that!

right off to hang washing and sort dishes before another cuppa

Fuddle, I put all rubbish in Sainsbugs/Asda carrier bags, tie the handles in a knot, then put them in a black bag that sits in the wheelie bin. If you position it right then it sits open in the bottom and you can just chuck the carrier bag in and it lands square on it. When that's full the RV ties the top of it in a knot and we start another one. :) We once had a smell and I jsut poured hot soapy water in it then laid it on its side and used a brush, liek somebody else said.
  • Hi everyone. :hello:
Thought i'd delurk and say hello.
I used to spend a bit of time on the DFW board but seem to have migrated over to OS lately.
I live with my OH and two retired greyhounds (my babies!) in a rented semi that we moved into in Feb.
Some great ideas and support here.

Grey Queen. Do you have any farms locally? if so go and ask if they have any old calf feed tubs (about 2.5` across and 2` deep) they are great for growing all kinds of veg in and are often a bit sturdier than a cut down barrel.
  • Fuddle I've seen wheelie bin-bags in B&M (If you have one) so I'm sure you'll find them in one of the cheaper shops. Not sure of the price but I seem to remember being pleasantly surprised!

Hammerite do a good paint for iron-workery - it's a primer and top coat all in one. It's expensive tho' so might be worth an ask on freecycle.

Hope those of you feeling bleugh feel better soon and hope all hospital visits go well - fingers crossed!

    Flo xx

:) Hello Aria's Tail, that's a useful suggestion. I'm in a city centre with only a pushbike for transport and the nearest farms are miles away beyond the 'burbs.

Howsomever, there is a feller who brings very good and useful tubs, pails and barrels to a bootsale which I attend a few times a year (and rellies attend a couple of times a month) so I will add them to my wish list. TY.

    Morning all,

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome - I need a bit of everything - support, advice and a giggle :)

It's fairly chilly this morning, mind you I'm one of these people that's always cold. So am wrapped up in lots of layers with my cosy wool socks on :)

One of the things I'm most looking forward to about having a house is my own wheelie bin. We share 2 biggish bins between 13 flats, and if the bin men can't get through the car park because of the cars they don't empty it! so we can go for 4 - 6 weeks without the bins being emptied - vile in summer!

Also our new rented house has a massive garden and a shed which has been converted into a chicken coop. I haven't looked at it but I'm really hoping it's in good condition so I can get some chooks next year. Looking forward to growing my own veg too, had our names down on a couple of allotments for a couple of years now but none ever come up.

DH is on 2 - 10 shifts this week so shall make myself a batch of chickpea curry so I can have it for the next few nights. Shall enjoy it whilst I'm watching the bake off :)

Ginny - hope tomorrow goes well.

I've just been to a harvest festival. It was good but a little strange - you take in some harvest products - tins, fruit, veg etc then they did a bring and buy with it and the money went to the YMCA rather than giving them the food.
I bought a packet of posh fox's biscuits for the DH and a can of condensed milk ready for making pumpkin pie for £1.20 and then put some more donation in a bucket.
What made me laugh was there was loads and I mean loads of pineapples :)

Wrapped up on the sofa in my pj's with a big scarf/wrap around me with some creme brulee white hot choc that someone bought us as a present.

It'll be 10 weeks since the accident tomorrow - I always get a bit jittery on a Tuesday.
It was Mum's 50th Birthday the other week and mine aswell (not 50 though may I add :)) so I'm just glad there out of the way. On the 8th Oct they would of been married 30 years so that'll be hard.

Possession I also meant to watch Nigella but forgot. I love her :)

I lost my dad only 4 months ago, so I and most others on here knows what your family are going through, and do you know what, I always hate the first winter and xmas in that year over any loss, I hate it.............

Mind you this year has been !!!!! all the way through for me this year, be glad to see the back of it............

Just wanted to say I do hope so much that they find little missing girl April Jones from Wales, its so sad, but I do fear what has happened to her, bless her ........
    Take care all....
  • Postie has just been and delivered 3 x £5 Topshop vouchers I had forgotten I had cashed out from Spud Shillings a few weeks ago. :D Will put them away to go towards OH`s daughter (13) for THAT day in December. Have already knitted her a ruffle scarve, this year all of the female members of family and friends are all getting scarves!

On that thought must `feed` the cakes with brandy today, might have to have a small glass later myself, just for quality control of course. ;)

Fuddle, I use an old fashioned dustbin in back garden (just outside kitchen door) with a normal bin liner in, when it is full just tie it up and chuck it in the wheelie bin (they live out the front of the house). It saves me having to go out of the front door in my pjs and fluffy slippers and scaring the neighbours as well as keeping bins cleaner!

Well I'm still creaking and have had a moan at MrT this morning they somehow punctured a tin of hotdogs which went all over my carpet and I had loads of subs and the kingsmill is out of stock again AND my one unflat malt loaf was popped open..

Unheard of for me to be here in the morning. The Rev is out for the day and the mouse is looking forward to a bit of play.
Actually intend to let the WM earn its keep while I lounge on the sofa with my knitting. But first I have to go a-hunting and a-gathering in the Co-op for a few essential supplies - chocolate heads the list.

Can't remember who said that the reason Dad had savings was because he was so careful all his life. Too right. He worked his socks off all his life, was ultra careful with his money, apart from a stint in Burma during the war he only had one holiday abroad, got his first car at about 50 years old, grew all his own fruit and vegetables, kept chickens and was generous to lots of charities. His reward was that in his nineties when he started to need help he had to pay for every penny of it. He didn't moan and neither did we because it was right that the money he had managed to save was spent on making sure that he was looked after. What really annoys me is that those who had no intention of being self-supporting and spent all their money on new cars, annual trips abroad, entertainment, clothes, meals out etc. were given all their care. I've no quarrel with people in need being looked after, but Dad could have had a much easier life if he hadn't been so independent and insisted on buying his own house at a time when ordinary working class people didn't dream of such a thing, and what a struggle that was at times. It's hard not to think that he was cheated in some way.
Wow! Where did that lot come from. Actually, if I'm honest, Dad lived like he did because it was his nature, and he couldn't have wasted money if he'd been born with the proverbial silver spoon. So ignore my ravings. I'll go back to a more decorous evening visit.

    Sorry.
