Chilling out with a DVD sounds good GQ.
Kidcat I can't believe how much car trouble you are having, what a nightmare.
Good news on your LL agreeing Fuddle.
I meant to watch Nigella but seem to have missed it again - she isn't really eye candy for me though!0 -
GreyQueen, I remember someone saying they had such trouble growing carrots that they took out a narrow trench and filled it with sand to stop the carrots going all Esther Rantzen That's Life-ish (showing my age here)
Trouble is I don't remember if it workedIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

My bucket list for this incarnation includes, but well down the rankings, Grow a Decent Carrot. The old boys on my lottie site, some of whom have been gardening there for 50 years and their old Dads before them, say No one can grow a decent carrot on here! as if stating a universal truth.
Hi
I haven't been posting much for ages but have kept on lurking quietly in the background. But I do have a suggestion about the high ambition to Grow a Decent Carrot...
we managed to achieve this by [STRIKE]scrounging[/STRIKE] obtaining a couple of blue barrels (those ubiquitous ornaments of any lottie sites) and after filling the bottom half with rocks and soil, then the top half with good compost we manage to grow really good carrots in them. And apparently carrot fly don't go above 18" from the ground so they're ok as far as that goes.
Ok now I can go lurk in the potting shed again...0 -

Ok now I can go lurk in the potting shed again...Please don't run away and hide, that's a really good idea. I love the idea of high rise carrots. I shall keep my eyes peeled for barrels ready for next year. Perhaps if I grease the sides with a mixture of Vaseline and Vicks Vapour Rub the dadblasted snails and slugs won't get them in there.
Gawd but I hate those blasted things..............:mad:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi emalou
Welcome to the thread!
Sorry to hear about your father ((hugs))
Microwaves, well we got our first one back in June this year. OH admitted defeat and we finally got one, to be honest we use it a fair bit. Maybe 3-4 times a week, which is a lot for us. OH and i picked a combination microwave , it was about £60 new but it is worth it. We could have got a cheaper but we are paranoid over radiation etc OH rejected a used one and said no chance, to be honest its the only item OH demanded new.
We use it for all sorts including cooking pasta. Couldn't live without it now.
Glad your day went so well fuddle :j:j:j
I've still got the darn cast arghhh  still can't bend my knee so going to see a gp maybe tomorrow and if its any better by wednesday then a&e here i come.
going to look on the grocery thread for inspiration and make a meal plan. Been so slack for the past few months its unreal. Between us and builders we've spent a fortune on groceries, so need to reel in the spending.0 -
Just managed to catch up, think it was 21 pages and then another few that had appeared today. Apologies for the late replies.Thank you for all your replies about charities. I have thrown all except two in the bin and will throw future ones in the bin. It sounds like everyone on here does their best, I wonder if the people who are loaded do as much? Widow's mite springs to mind! Eventually I'll get round to writing to the charities to stop them sending me stuff but I only have enough energy to get me through the day at the moment. I've been a bit low today and am worried about how I'm going to cope starting work this week. Oh well, it'll all turn out OK.
Some 20 years back I was involved in a local branch of a national charity. Due to sale of some land we had a hefty bank balance to spend on new work in the local area. National suggested we might benefit from some fundraising advice and arranged for two of their professional fundraisers to visit. These fundraisers received a commission on every idea they put forward that raised money. One of them had been a city money trader, but left it as being a charity fundraiser could be more lucrative. A month after the visit, which didn't offer any new ideas at all, we were invoiced for £10,000 for their advice and expertise and reminded that any of the ideas we implemented would require a percentage payment to national. The experience turned me into a cynic about charity fundraising.
I donate directly to the charities that matter to me, I don't do direct debits or mailing lists, if I get a letter from a charity I normally support I ask them to remove me from their mailing list as the next letter I receive will result in no further donations from me it seems to work.busy here had 2 whole hrs while DS2 was as school to get cleaning! His 6th form timetable is a nightmare...
Will lose my momentum if I sit longer than a quick coffee being such a good girlie this morning...doesn't happen often!
Have a great day all

I think it was VJsmum who was about to remove radiators, keep a tray under the pipes until the radiators are refitted (or fit Stopends) mine were still burping water for several days after the system was supposedly drained. Radiators are surprisingly heavy, and even when you're convinced they are empty are likely to discharge an obnoxious sludge over your carpets when you move them. (lessons learned earlier this year)0 -
Thanks all

Ginny - hope tomorrow goes well.
I've just been to a harvest festival. It was good but a little strange - you take in some harvest products - tins, fruit, veg etc then they did a bring and buy with it and the money went to the YMCA rather than giving them the food.
I bought a packet of posh fox's biscuits for the DH and a can of condensed milk ready for making pumpkin pie for £1.20 and then put some more donation in a bucket.
What made me laugh was there was loads and I mean loads of pineapples
Wrapped up on the sofa in my pj's with a big scarf/wrap around me with some creme brulee white hot choc that someone bought us as a present.
It'll be 10 weeks since the accident tomorrow - I always get a bit jittery on a Tuesday.
It was Mum's 50th Birthday the other week and mine aswell (not 50 though may I add) so I'm just glad there out of the way. On the 8th Oct they would of been married 30 years so that'll be hard.
Possession I also meant to watch Nigella but forgot. I love her0 -

Adhesive copper tape seems to work here. Roll about 2 inches wide and IIRC it came from Aldi, though other sources are available, for a couple of pounds0 -
